The Animal Science Center is part of the , a group dedicated to aiding the research community in navigating the lifecycle of their work, from finding funding to creating proposals to helping inventions find their way to the public.
Ensure quality animal care for all research animals. Maintain proper sanitization of all animal equipment, animal housing and research areas and materials.
Follow Institutional, local, state, federal regulations, policies and procedures to assure proper animal care, health and welfare.
Perform basic animal husbandry for common laboratory species i.e. rat, mouse, fish, frogs, other for conventional, barrier, and aquatics facilities.
Perform basic animal care operations procedures relevant to Animal Biosafety Levels : ABSL-1, ABSL-2, and Chemical Containments Levels : CCL-1, CCL-2, CCL-3.
Animal receiving, census data collection, supply inventory, sorting, and distribution. Other duties as assigned.
This position is scheduled Tuesday through Saturday.
This position is eligible for the generous at Boston University.
Required Skills
High School diploma or GED, at least 1 year of experience.
Other requirements include :
Complete Initial Health Questionnaire
Complete OSHA Respiratory Medical Evaluation Questionnaire
TB skin test within past year / TB skin test within past 6 months if working with NHP’s
Proof of two Measles, Mumps, or Rubella or positive measles titer
Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (TDAP) if not vaccinated within past 10 years
Functional capacity evaluation - A functional capacity evaluation is set of tests, practices and observations that are combined to determine the ability of the evaluated person to function in a variety of circumstances, most often employment, in an objective manner.
