Night Shift Pump Station Operator

Full Time 11pm-7am

SUMMARY

Positions open for Pump Station Operator (Drydock Watch), the primary job for the dock watch is to operate and maintain the dry-dock and vessel support systems. The watch will check support systems during their shift, fueling and conducting maintenance as required. Position can be filled by a person with electrical and/or mechanical knowledge.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES based on position include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Ensure security and safety of dry-dock, ship and shipyard.
  • Operate and maintain motor generator sets and dock pumps as required.
  • Operate and maintain dock support systems, fire-main, fresh water, air and CHT systems etc.
  • Nightly tasks, refuel equipment, observe fire-main pressure (adjust as needed)
  • Posted assignments for daily tasks, (grease 66 crane, oil 90 crane, etc.)
  • Air Compressor, check fluids, refuel as required, start and put online as noted on the assignment board.
  • Installation and/or repair of pumps, motors, valves or other support equipment.
  • Tests all dock support machinery and equipment to verify readiness.
  • The watch will maintain all items as required on and around the work site (gator, forklift, yard vehicles, fences, spills etc.).
  • Cleanliness of pump house and surrounding area.
  • May be assigned miscellaneous tasks outside craft as required.
  • Contact supervisor if emergencies arise.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, job specifications, instruction manuals and manufacturer's handbooks.
  • Must know the proper use of required hand tools.
  • Possess an understanding of the metric system and ability to convert metric to English and English to metric.
  • Works with limited or no supervision.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Use of all types of precision measuring instruments.
  • Able to reverse-engineer specifications.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is frequently required to stand (minimum of two hours while conducting regular work duties), walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl on board ships. The employee will frequently use both hands to grasp rails while climbing, to hold and carry tools and equipment, to operate tools and machinery. The employee will be required to go to dock multiple times daily using several flights of stairs. The employee must be able to respond to voice or visual commands. The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds on a consistent (daily) basis.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: wet or humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places; exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold or extreme heat; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The employee must be able to work in confined spaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

SAFETY

Must comply with Company safety rules and OSHA standards. Must be physically and medically qualified to wear the required personal protective equipment as prescribed under OSHA standard.
