    General Description: Under the supervision of the Head of School, the Lower School Director oversees the day to day operations of all students and staff in grades K1-2nd. The Lower School Director supervises, evaluates and directs all instructional and support staff. The Lower School Director collaborates in decision making as part of the Academic and Instructional Leadership teams. The Lower School Director is an integral part of planning improvements that directly address BRCPS’ objectives in the following areas: student achievement, teaching and learning, family and staff communication. The Lower School Director will operate as part of the Boston Renaissance Charter Public School leadership team. The Lower School Director is an instructional leader, as department based manager, and as builder of school culture.
    Who are we looking for?Boston Renaissance Charter Public School is looking for a seasoned leader in education that is passionate about equity, furthering student achievement, providing safe spaces for students to learn and grow. We are looking for someone that embraces and celebrates the racial, cultural, and linguistic diversity of our students and has a strong commitment to our students, families and the BRCPS community. We are looking for someone who is culturally, instructionally and operationally proficient and are able to utilize and develop these competencies to best serve all students and staff in their buildings.
    Responsibilities:
  • Creates and maintains a clear focus on achieving sustainable success for every student, providing access to equitable opportunities, and building a sustainable inclusive and culturally responsive school culture and environment.
  • Establishes consistent, reliable, and clear communications and engagement opportunities with multiple stakeholders to reinforce the “why” behind the vision of the Lower School.
  • Supports and advocates for the adoption and implementation of high quality, culturally responsive and standards aligned instructional materials.
  • Supports the development of professional learning that is timely and relevant and equips teachers to effectively provide culturally responsive and linguistically sustaining instruction.
  • Monitors and ensures high quality, culturally responsive instructional practices among teachers and staff to advance learning for every student. Ensures instruction is contextualized in students’ lives, promotes academic discourse, develops students’ critical consciousness, and enables students to demonstrate learning in a variety of ways.
  • Models and coach educators to provide culturally sustaining instruction that incorporates research-based best practice.
  • Works collaboratively with the Chief Academic Office and Data & Assessment Coordinators to examine and use disaggregated data to support calls for change in practice or instructional approach, paying close attention to inequities and gaps for historically marginalized students.
  • Embraces all student cultures and native languages, and engages and leads others in creating opportunities for the full community to celebrate and learn from them through linguistic and culture-sustaining experiences.
  • Builds authentic relationships with students, families and communities to enable learning partnerships. Supports educators in establishing genuine partnership with families, intentionally learning from families, and encouraging family involvement in classrooms and school. Ensures proactive and positive outreach to families and partners so that they may engage meaningfully with school in traditional and non-traditional ways.
  • Ensures practices that yield and retain staff that have an asset-based mindset and fervent belief in the students and families served by the school.
  • Facilitates the growth of individuals through ongoing, actionable feedback and evaluation; creates and empowers educators to seek out stretch opportunities; and coaches and mentors teachers to achieve the school mission and grow as leaders.
  • Provides and supports others to provide real-time personalized, actionable feedback and opportunities so staff can celebrate their wins, and identify areas where they need to improve. Hold staff members accountable to changes in their practice to best serve students.
  • Models the principles of culturally responsive social and emotional learning through daily interactions with staff and students; coaches staff to do the same to provide students with the social and emotional support they need.
  • Creates and supports the development of inclusive efforts to celebrate student culture and diversity.
  • Assists in the provision of instructional leadership that advances proven teaching and learning practices;
  • Provides ongoing feedback to the Assistant Director to ensure consistency and continuity of purpose for the Lower School;
  • Collaborates with Chief Academic Officer, Assistant Directors, Curriculum Coordinators, and Coaches to design professional development for staff to continuously improve instruction in all Lower School classrooms;
  • Collaborates with Chief Academic Officer, Assistant Director, Curriculum Coordinators and Coaches to set standards for school achievement and ensure that continuous improvement in all Lower School classrooms is guided by academic standards, school wide instructional priorities, and concrete data from a variety of assessments;
  • Attends leadership team meetings: ILT, AT, and others as requested by Directors or Head of School;
  • Follows school protocol for documenting, communicating, and reporting ongoing student attendance concerns;
  • Works in cooperation with Family Service Specialist to assist families in need of support;
  • Facilitates parent meetings to address concerns and work to resolution of issues;
  • Maintains regular communication and building rapport with community members and stakeholders;
  • Works collaboratively with Upper School Director, SS Director, Chief Academic Officer and Director of Visual and Performing Arts to create an Academic Schedule and Specialty Schedule to ensure accurate programmatic implementation;
  • Ensures all appropriate steps are taken to comply with state and federal regulations;
  • Works cooperatively to make budgetary recommendations for the Lower School as part of the preparation of the preliminary budget for the school;
  • Prepares required reports and maintaining complete and accurate records for the Lower School;
  • Responds to and collaborates with appropriate teams to resolve situations arising throughout the day that pertain to staff, students, and/or broader school operations;
  • Assists the Head of School by performing other duties and responsibilities as needed in order to meet The Boston Renaissance Charter School’s performance standards.
Requirements Minimum:
  • Masters in Education or similar field.
  • Possession of a valid Massachusetts Director License; Strongly preferred: School Principal License or proof of successful completion of MA-PAL.
  • Experience: The Lower School Director must have 5-7 years of teaching experience along with coaching and/or 3-5 years leadership/supervisory experience.
  • Term: Academic Administrative Work Year (School year plus 15 days)
Salary: Starting $120,000 Commensurate with experience
