Summary: The literacy teacher is a specialist in all aspects of ELA instruction; reading, writing, and spelling. The literacy teacher provides high-level literacy support for members of the school community. Major Responsibilities:? Organizing and implementing multisensory structured language instruction, ? Providing direct service for whole group, small group, and individual instruction based on student needs ? Administering and interpreting educational assessments ? Implement a range of effective strategies and reading interventions ? Co-plan with classroom teacher, ? Organize and disseminate ELA resources to school staff ? Collect and organize and analyze data, including measures such DIBELS for grade-level meetings ? Implement lessons specific to Common Core Standards and share instructional strategies ? Participate in grade-level meetings ? Lead specified curriculum meetings, as well as lead discussions around literacy practices ? Assist in the analysis of school-wide literacy strengths and weaknesses and formulate plans to improve student achievement in reading and teacher effectiveness ? Create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the reading achievement of all students ? Morning Duty: Includes active supervision of hallways and classrooms. ? Afternoon Duty: Includes active supervision of the dismissal process. ? Additional duties may be assigned without additional compensation or stipend Qualifications: ? Bachelor’s Degree in Reading and/or Special Education (Required) ? Master’s degree in Reading and/or Special Education preferred ? Prior teaching experience, especially in the classroom ? Project Read, Wilson, and/or Orton-Gilingham preferred ? Background and experience in the administration and interpretation of educational assessments ? Knowledge and understanding of Common Core State Standards ? Excellent communication skills Required license(s)/MTELs:? DESE License: Reading All Levels and SEI Endorsement. Or ? Passing the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL), this includes a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills test and a passing score on the relevant subject matter knowledge test(s). ? Two or more years of classroom teaching experience in urban setting preferred
