Boston Public Schools is Hiring a Climate Culture Coordinator [Charlestown High] SY2425 Near Boston, MA

The Climate and Culture Coordinator (CCC) will play a critical role in improving student performance at Charlestown High School by ensuring our school maintains a positive learning environment and a culture of high expectations. The person in this role will also collaborate with school staff to support the implementation of strategies and programs designed to improve culture and climate including creating and deploying a restorative practices program for managing student accountability. The CCC will develop a system for school staff to implement restorative practices, regularly monitor school culture and climate, and work to ensure that the school is safe, welcoming, and focused on student outcomes. This is a full-time position responsible for creating behavior systems, protocols and consequences in conjunction with the principal. The CCC will develop a strong rapport with students and support staff, students and families at times when students are struggling at school, inside and outside of the classroom. In addition, the CCC will provide critical support to teachers and administrators during school meals, transitions and student entrance/dismissal. REPORTS TO: Principal and/or Designee Responsibilities of the Climate & Culture Coordinator include, but are not limited to: Build rapport with students who need behavioral support, checking in with students daily and writing notes to parents providing them with updates Manage and align school community on school culture expectations including interventions, discipline and incentives. Includes classroom observations. Create and maintain growth plans and tracking charts for students who need individualized support plans, in partnership with the principal or designee Implement disciplinary policies and procedures in accordance with Boston Public Schools discipline policies, including verbal/written communication with families and partner agencies, scheduling and facilitation of hearings/meetings, follow up documentation via paper and BPS SIS, coordination of any re-entry process. Review data and assist in developing strategies for improved school climate, student attendance, and positive behaviors. Develop and maintain a positive behavior system that supports students who need to step out of class temporarily, following protocols established by the schools leadership team (e.g., bringing students to a quiet room or space and working with the student to understand and troubleshoot any barriers to engaging with academics, communicating with teacher and family as needed, documenting interventions) Facilitate Restorative conversations (mediations and circles) when needed to assist students and staff work toward classroom engagement. Provide administrative support at critical times of the day, such as morning arrival, class transitions, breakfast, lunch and dismissal/transportation. Invest parents and families in their childrens academic success through regular communication of success and challenges Reflect on successes and areas of growth around all areas; seek to improve performance; receive feedback eagerly Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a rigorous, joyful, and safe environment Continue to seek and build new partnerships, with a focus on maximizing resources Assume responsibility for every single scholars success by holding all students accountable during transitions, breakfast, lunch, arrival, dismissal, testing etc. Provide daily support for Small Learning Communities and schoolwide operations (technology, transportation, food/nutrition, events/assemblies) Emergency support as needed (medical or climate emergencies, attend Safety Care training and administer physical restraint as needed for student safety, coordinate with school administration, climate Lead and School Safety to secure school community in event of emergency) Attend CHS field trips and community events as assigned Support operations of Summer School and Extended Learning Time as assigned Attend CHS Open House and Family Community Events [Time outside contracted work day counties toward total number of annual work days] Maintain data entry into SIS and other databases as assigned Work with CHS staff and BPS transportation department to support any challenges with student arrival/dismissal Work with appropriate staff at the school in revising staff and student handbooks. Work with appropriate staff at the school to create and distribute the school safety plan Create and maintain an after school academic assistance program to improve student academic outcomes. Performs other responsibilities as requested by the Principal QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED: Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment At least 2-3 years experience managing adolescent programs and data collection At least 3 years experience in urban school system working with a diverse ethnic student body Demonstrated passion for and commitment to Charlestown High Schools mission, core values and educational model Commitment to the success of all Charlestown High School students Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems Willingness to work autonomously, collaboratively, and/or under the direction of senior staff, as needed Strong written and oral communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Google Drive Suite Comfort and familiarity with student information databases (Aspen, SIS, etc) Preferred: Bachelor's Degree, Bilingual Candidates " />
