To learn more about working at BHCHP, watch our video Please Click Here.Job Summary:Hours: Full time, Monday – Friday 8:30am-5:00pm; hours may varyAbout 60% of those we serve have a diagnosed substance use disorder. Drug overdose is the leading cause of death among homeless individuals in Boston; same-month engagement in our buprenorphine program is associated with a 66% lower rate of death. In our program, we continue to expand on-demand access to all types of addiction treatment, while reducing the harms associated with drug use. We do not require people to stop using before seeking our help. As the Associate Director of Addiction Treatment, you will serve as a clinician for people living with opioid use disorder and using medication for addiction treatment; as a supervisor and mentor for a team of nurse care managers who provide clinical care to people on buprenorphine-naloxone (Suboxone) for addiction treatment; ensuring equitable distribution of clinical work; formulating and updating clinical protocols; managing challenging cases and/or advising other nurses on management; and training staff both within the team and throughout the program on issues related to treatment of substance use disorders. You will provide leadership in maintaining our program’s commitment to the inherent worth and dignity of our disenfranchised and dispossessed patients with substance use disorders. You will ensure that the flow and structure of our work supports our patients’ full access to appropriate care, which includes flexibility to address patient needs as well as staff with the support required to remain well-trained, emotionally resilient, and fully present for their patients.Responsibilities:
All of the duties of Recovery Nurse positions, spending about half of time as a clinical nurse care manager; plus:
  • Provides consultation regarding clinical issues within the nurse care manager scope of practice, for other nurses and clinicians both inside the OBAT program, and in other parts of BHCHP; supports and mentors nurses in the OBAT program.
  • Maintains and updates clinical care protocols.
  • Supervise management of controlled substances inventory, including record-keeping, ensuring security, and training staff; supervise management of injectable buprenorphine and any other buy-and-bill medications used by the team, including working with vendors to ensure a regular supply.
  • Participate in management team meetings and regular coordination with harm reduction team and HIV team, to ensure holistic care for people who use substances; support satellite addiction treatment efforts at other shelters or affiliated programs, with training, protocol support, and other needs.
  • Build and grow relationships with partner organizations (e.g., Boston Medical Center, Opioid Treatment Programs, residential treatment programs, etc.) for the benefit of our patients and our program.
  • Maintain or supervise maintenance of patient databases and supervise retention efforts; ensure that policies and practices are aligned with goals of ensuring low-barrier and trauma-informed care at every step of the process.
  • In conjunction with the Director of Addiction Treatment, maintain relationships with funders and participate in grant reporting activities.
  • Ensure that staff administering stimulant treatment systems (including recovery rewards systems and data-gathering and maintenance) are carrying out their duties with scrupulous fairness and accuracy; regularly audit nursing notes and patient experiences to ensure quality care.
Qualifications:
  • Licensed to practice professional nursing as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of nursing experience preferred; minimum of three (3) years of management experience preferred.
  • Experience with people experiencing homelessness; certified in addiction nursing (CARN); experience in leading an OBAT program or a program and with creating complex clinical protocols for nursing practice.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed care and demonstrated experience leading teams that reflect TIC principles.
  • Experience in HIV/AIDS related medical/social issues; knowledge of community, and health resources, particularly addiction related resources and supports.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of issues related to race, gender, sexual orientation, economic inequality, and other areas of inequality or discrimination, both in patient care and in relationships among employees and professional partners.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with excellent communication skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Bilingual preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
  • The compensation range is $88,600 - $115,180.
  • BHCHP full time employees are eligible for our competitive time off policy of 4 weeks’ vacation, health, dental and vision insurance, 403B retirement savings plan and employer retirement contribution, and pre-tax MBTA pass program with 40% discount. In addition, eligible employees will receive yearly increases, additional compensation of seven thousand five hundred added to your base hiring rate for demonstrated bilingual proficiency and the opportunity to work with local hospitals and community health centers.
