The mission of the Office of Residential Life is to create safe, inclusive, and well maintained living communities. We engage our community members in opportunities to develop spiritually, socially, and academically in the Jesuit, Catholic tradition of the University. Under the leadership of the Associate Vice President, Director of Residential Education, and Director of Operations, the department consists of 40 professional staff members, 24 graduate positions, 192 resident assistants, and additional student workers.
Residential Life seeks a dynamic and motivated candidate to serve as an Area Coordinator (two positions available). The Area Coordinator oversees the residential student experience across three communities, working to foster a positive living experience that centers community development and care of students. Guided by Boston College’s Jesuit tradition, the Area Coordinator’s efforts should be aimed at creating a supportive and engaging atmosphere where students can explore and deepen their understanding of themselves, their relationship to others, and their place in the world by living in a shared community. By creating a residential environment that fosters reflection and dialogue, we strive to cultivate well-rounded individuals who are equipped to lead meaningful and purposeful lives.
Basic Function and Responsibility:
The Area Coordinator is a 12-month, live-on, full-time professional staff member, responsible for three residential communities. The Area Coordinator lives with, serves, and provides support directly to students. The AC supervises 2 full-time Resident Directors who each have responsibility for a residential community, and additionally directly oversees their own residential community including supervising a team of 9-14 Resident Assistants (RAs), 1-2 Graduate Assistants, and up to one Office Assistant (OA).
In addition to supervision of professional staff and student leaders the primary functions of the Area Coordinator center on creating a supportive community for students including collaborating with campus stakeholders in support of overarching department goals and initiatives, ensuring a cohesive and comprehensive approach to residential education, directly conceptualizing and implementing initiatives to enhance community engagement and support services within area, addressing conduct issues, working with the Dean of Students Office for higher-level conduct matters, and overseeing utilization of resources including management of the area budget.
By personal example, the Area Coordinator strives to create a safe and inclusive environment for all students by living, reflecting, and expressing the values of a Jesuit and Catholic institution, as defined by the teachings of the Catholic Church with a special commitment to cultural diversity and social justice. Successful candidates will also be administratively strong, culturally competent, possess a Master’s degree, and have prior residence life or related student affairs experience.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $51,850 to $64,800; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
