Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining and improving the Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OH&SMS), the Environmental Management System (EMS), and sustainability programs for the facility – drives continuous improvement in safety, environmental, and sustainability performance in full compliance with ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 and Corporate expectations.
  • Develop programs and procedures designed to reduce occupational and non-occupational accident/injury/illness experiences and ensure a safe work environment.
  • Promote health, safety, and environmental awareness throughout the organization through effective employee communication, participation, and programming. Develops comprehensive programs tailored to the plant-specific issues with a high degree of employee involvement on safety teams, inspection teams, etc.
  • Drive sustainability projects. Establish annual goals and create action plans to meet the goals. Track, communicate, and provide updates on progress to goals.
  • Ensure compliance of all programs meets or exceeds OSHA and EPA standards. Responsible for maintaining a work environment that meets regulatory requirements.
  • Identify, evaluate, manage, and minimize all safety and environmental risks for plant.
  • Responsible for environmental and safety compliance and audits (internal and third-party).
  • Write and develop formal programs, policies, and procedures that promote a safe work environment.
  • Develop formal job hazard analysis process for purpose of controlling hazards and minimizing safety risks. Create, review, and update Job Safety Analysis documentation to identify and mitigate work-related hazards.
  • Develop and integrate waste management, minimization, recycling, and sustainability into all levels of the production process.
  • Oversee workplace inspections, closing of findings, incident investigations, and the corrective action process.
  • Establish safety team, safety training for all employees, and safety projects.
  • Prepare and maintain EHS records. Prepare reports and analyze required internally and externally; communicate on a regular basis with various levels of the organization internally and externally including required compliance reporting/documentation. Review statistics and KPIs to evaluate, detect, and respond to trends and patterns.
  • Lead the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Inspect organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Maintain safety files and records including the SDS database.
  • Prepare the environmental health and safety budget.
  • Responsible for holding monthly safety training/meetings and organizing monthly safety and environmental training for entire plant. Reviews training for effectiveness and improves training materials and processes.
  • Participate in developing hazardous waste rules and regulations to protect people and the environment.
  • Assist in the completion of required environmental compliance and reporting.
  • Participate in developing spill reporting regulations and environmental damage assessment programs.
  • Compile and submit accident reports required by regulatory agencies.

We are looking for

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university preferred; three plus years of related experience and/or training in a manufacturing environment preferred; OSHA or MIOSHA safety certifications preferred; ISO (45001 or 14001) Lead Auditor training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience and a minimum of seven to ten years working in a manufacturing environment.
