Borden Cottage is Hiring a Recovery Advocate, Per Diem Near Camden, ME

Provides direct patient care and participates in therapeutic milieu within the scope of defined practice.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides direct patient care through group and individual patient interactions; establishes relationships with patients that are helpful and maintains good professional boundaries.
  • Attends and participates in daily rounds when scheduled; responsible for taking rounds minutes and distributing to staff daily.
  • Completes clear, concise and timely documentation on each shift.
  • Works effectively, in collaboration with nursing staff, to manage the therapeutic milieu by participating in leading and co-leading patient groups, providing and supervising community activities, providing patients with direction and/or supervision, as needed and communicating information regarding therapeutic environment to clinical team in a timely manner.
  • Provides patient transportation to and from all necessary appointments, community outings and ancillary activities, as assigned.
  • Helps to identify patient strengths and deficits related to activities of daily living and initiates and implements interventions to meet these needs.
  • Remains awake and alert at all times while on shift.
  • Follows all program policies and procedures; adheres to program guidelines around use of all recreational equipment and buildings and heating/cooling controls and completes work orders for all discovered maintenance needs or issues.
  • Conducts environmental room checks on each shift; completes documentation of these checks on each shift. Reports any findings to Lead RA or program leadership.
  • Assists kitchen staff with meal setup and cleanup, as needed.
  • All other RA tasks as assigned or requested, including shift checklists.
  • Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency by completing mandatory staff development trainings, seeking feedback regarding work performance and identifying strengths and areas for professional development with supervisor.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and presents in a positive and professional manner.
  • All Borden Cottage team members are expected to consistently demonstrate our values of integrity, compassion, respect, diversity, teamwork, excellence and innovation in their work activities and interactions.
  • Reports directly to Lead RA and Clinical Director.

Requirements: High Diploma or GED Required; active Driver’s License in the State of Maine and ability to satisfactorily meet program driving standards.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Requires demonstrated ability to exercise proper judgement, discretion, initiative, and have excellent communication skills.

  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication.
  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified; or training provided.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Must be comfortable answering the phones to include patient calls, family calls and calls from referral sources and business contacts.
  • Able to prioritize workload to assure patient care is addressed in a timely manner.
  • All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.
  • Expected to remain awake and alert at all times.

Working conditions: Works in a typical residential psychiatric setting with patients who are experiencing a wide range of acute psychiatric conditions, including addiction. Shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Moderate amount of walking. Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Physical ability for participation in patient activities. Significant mental effort involved in working with and organizing care for a diverse patient population.
