A Brief Overview
The EMS supervisor is responsible for overseeing all EMS Departmental operations during the assigned shift. Plans, directs and coordinates the operations of the EMS Department. Manage both BLS and ALS staff for optimum performance.
What you will do

  • Assists in developing and maintaining all of the operational systems of the Emergency Medical Services Department.
  • Responsible for all vehicles, supplies and equipment usage during assigned shift
  • Ensures that in-service vehicles, supplies and equipment are thoroughly checked by all EMS personnel
  • Ensures that all reported discrepancies are corrected at the earliest possible time
  • Documents and reports all discrepancies to the on-call manager
  • Responsible for correcting all reported vehicle, supply and equipment deficiency during assigned shifts in a timely manner. All measures should be exhausted to correct deficiencies before reporting to the appropriate manager
  • Visits all EMS stations where Holy Name EMS units are stationed
  • Ensures that all personnel are in appropriate uniform and in compliance with all Hospital and EMS Department Policies and Procedures. Ensures that all stations are clean and compliant with OSHA, Federal (Narcotic) and NJ State Department of Health Regulations
  • Ensures that all Holy Name EMS units are following the response time standards. Ensures that Holy Name EMS units are following the department's posting plan and going to their assigned post in a timely manner
  • Reviews all shift PCR's (Patient Care Reports) for completeness, signatures and that the PCR's are locked as required by EMS Department Policy and Procedures
  • Ensures that EMS personnel have the appropriate equipment with them to provide the highest level of pre-hospital treatment and transportation.
  • Represents the Holy Name and the EMS Department by exhibiting the highest level of professionalism when interacting with EMS, Police and fire personnel, including hospital staff, administration and the general public
  • In our contracted towns, the EMS supervisor will respond to all high profile calls including but not limited to; fires, MVC, shooting/stabbings, MCIs, etc. The EMS supervisor will also respond to all BLS and ALS calls "holding" in our contracted towns
  • Recommends and initiates letters of commendation. Performs employee field evaluations
  • Responsible for maintaining the schedule during their assigned shift. There may be times that the EMS supervisor will be re-assigned to a unit to cover an open shift
  • Maintains efficiency of Holy Name EMS units performing interfacility transports
  • Demonstrates awareness of Medical Center and Departmental policies and ensures staff compliance and uses these as a basis for decision making for clinical and management issues
  • Assist in determining staffing requirements. Assists with recruitment, and trains new staff
  • Delegate work duties to staff
  • Monitor, evaluate and manage staff performance including performance reviews
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned by the EMS management


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree equivalent combination of education and applicable work experience Preferred


Experience Qualifications

  • 4-6 years 5 years EMS experience Required


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working knowledge of driver safety and emergency care
  • EVOC certification or equivalent certification for driving
  • Knowledge of ICS structure and how to apply in various situations
  • Knowledge of NJAC Statutes 8:40 and 8:41
  • Hazmat training at the awareness level or better within the last 12 months
  • Incident Command System Certifications: ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 300, NIMS 700, NIMS 800


Licenses and Certifications

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support American Heart Association Upon Hire Required and
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Valid NJ Driver's License with no moving violations or accidents Upon Hire Required and
  • PARAMEDIC - Paramedic - Licensed Valid NJ Paramedic License Upon Hire Required or
  • NREMT - National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic (Med Tech) Valid NJ EMT Certification Upon Hire Required and
  • A trauma course such as PHTLS or BTLS Upon Hire Preferred
