JOB SUMMARY: The paralegal is a legal professional who assists attorneys in preparing and organizing various legal documents for upcoming cases and trials. Their primary duties are preparing legal documents, case management, research and reporting, court filings, and record keeping. The Paralegal should possess excellent communication skills to ensure no delays in completing assigned tasks and maintaining a smooth workflow between clients and relevant departments. They take pride in their work and strive to provide exceptional service while representing the BSPP brand in a safe working environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Reviews Files & Serves daily, Downloads, prints, and reviews discovery.
  • Files motions.
  • Prepares and files notices of appearance.
  • Assists in drafting pleadings.
  • Updates case proceedings. 
  • Maintains asbestos database and retrieves requested reports.
  • Organizes and maintains files.
  • Assists with trial preparation.
  • Research and arranges for expert witnesses.
  • Schedules depositions, send confirmation letters, and arranges for the court reporter.
  • Gathers, reviews, indexes, and summarizes documents or transcripts.
  • Performs docket checks, obtains probate court files, etc.
  • Obtains and/or follows up on outstanding requests for medical/personal/disability/payroll/workers comp records, etc., at the attorney’s request.
  • Reviewing and categorizing tabs, bates stamps, indexes, and summarizing medical records.
  • Performs legal, non-legal, and medical research.
  • Prepares electronic filings for District Court.
  • Organizes and marks trial exhibits.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of graphs and exhibits for use at trial.
  • Prepares trial notebooks.
  • Corresponds daily with clients, counsel, doctors, etc.
  • Assists with special projects when required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION | EXPERIENCE:

  • At least three (3) years of related experience is required.
  • Previous paralegal knowledge is a plus.
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • An associate degree in paralegal studies or a related field is a plus.
  • A paralegal certificate is a plus.

COMPENSATION:

  • Commensurate with experience.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized, critical thinking, and multitasking ability.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to anticipate work needs and interact professionally with clients.
  • Ability to adapt to changes.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Desire to learn new things continually to update position knowledge.
