The Central Registration Specialist is responsible for entering accurate and complete demographic and insurance information into the Medic/Nextgen system and verifying insurance benefits as well as the collection of copays and outstanding balances.

General Summary of Duties:

Screens daily appointment list for all physicians. Ensures that all patients coming in have active insurance coverage and that patient balances are current.

Examples of Duties:

• Receives daily appointment list from computer operator, formats disks and prints schedule from computer
• Verifies all insurance on patients scheduled to come in
• Documents information received from insurance company in computer
• Verifies that patients are not in collections or have been dismissed from the clinic
• Verifies that the patient type is correct in computer to ensure proper fees are generated
• Screens patient accounts for any payments due from patient
• Contracts patient about past due balance and documents payment arrangement in computer
• Verifies that all claims addresses are correct to ensure proper billing
• Verifies all workers' compensation and auto liability accounts
• Performs related work as required

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of different types of insurance companies
• Skill in operating a computer, calculator, and photocopy machine
• Must be detailed and multi-task oriented

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required

Prior experience as a Medical Receptionist preferred. Minimum 1 year experience in customer service. Computer experience required
