The Clinical Research Financial and Billing Coordinator is responsible for implementing the collective work of the Office of Research’s finance and billing responsibilities in furtherance of clinical research taking place in BSMH markets. This includes the timely operations and processes for billing, invoicing, and other financial actions that result from patients enrolled in clinical trials. This role is responsible for completing tasks aligned with maintaining the operation and quality assurance of financial activities, including but not limited, to research billing compliance, financial reimbursement, and analysis, and ensuring implementation and utilization of the Clinical Trial Management System as related to finance and study budgets. This person will work under the supervision of the Research Project Manager for Research Finances and Billing implementing, and monitoring financial-related processes that contribute to the successful operations of Bon Secours Mercy Health’s research.

Essential Job Functions

Implement action plans designed to improve research operations involving financial processes, including, but not limited to, research billing compliance.

Liaison between study sponsors and the BSMH Office of Research finance and billing team in collaboration with research teams regarding research related charges, billing, invoice, and payment reconciliation.

Verifies month-end revenue transfer to clinical departments from study sponsor budgets.

Coordinates the preparation and management of all study budgets with the Research Project Manager and ResearchGenesis℠ process for initiating all clinical research studies within BSMH research.

Reconcile Federal and Non-Federal funds, as applicable. Prepares invoices for all pass through and milestone costs for each study, as applicable.

Works within the Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS) as related to finance and budgets. Ensures accuracy between CTMS and study budget. Utilizes CTMS for revenue and expense tracking of study finances.

Communicates with NCORP and other similar sponsors, reconciling monthly enrollment and audits funding based on OPEN. Performs billing audits with research manager to ensure accurate and quality invoicing.

Required Minimum Education:

2 Year/ Associates Degree

Specialty/Major: Accounting, Finance, Business or equivalent

Or an experienced Study Coordinator or Research Nurse with financial management experience

Preferred Education:

4 year/ Bachelors Degree

Specialty/Major: Accounting, Finance, Business or equivalent

Health Care Administration, Finance, or health related field

Licensure/Certification Preferred:

CITI

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Years and Type of Experience:

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an established clinical trial program preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Understanding of finance, accounting, and health care billing. Basic knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity in working in a medical office environment.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:

Oncology and Clinical Research financial oversight experience. Understanding of Medicare billing rules and functional knowledge of essential National Coverage Decisions and the new CMS Clinical Research Policy.
