Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Technical Services, ADE this position will provide leadership to regional plant employees for our Surface Technology division, manage loss control and accident prevention activities, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. This role will be based in Hebron, KY and be responsible for developing and implementing environmental health and safety programs, strategies, policies, training, and procedures, while also establishing and promoting maintenance of a safe, accident-free, environmentally responsible and healthy work environment in the region plants.
The position will perform compliance audit and risk assessment and based on the results, develop a prioritized strategy to reduce risk exposure with the plants and ensure progress is made in that direction.
Major Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing safety and health-related programs and activities.
  • Identify hazardous conditions or actions at plants that may cause injury, illness or property damage.
  • Advising and assisting Upper Management to establish changes in safety objectives and plan programs to achieve objectives and integrate safety into the culture of the organization.
  • Assist region in managing EHS programs, planning, organizing, budgeting, training and tracking the execution of activities to achieve EHS objectives or to implement administrative or technical controls that will eliminate or reduce hazards.
  • Conducting inspections and audits to assess EHS-related risks associated with equipment, materials, processes, facilities or abilities.
  • Reduce fire hazards by working with engineering on the layout of facilities and processes, and design of fire detection and suppression systems.
  • Ensure that mandatory EHS standards are satisfied.
  • Work with engineering to control hazards such as noise, chemical exposures, or biological hazards that can create harm.
  • Work with engineering and plant management to improve Ergonomics by improving the workplace based on an understanding of human physiological and psychological characteristics, abilities and limitations.
  • Ensure that any dangerous chemicals and other products are procured, stored, and disposed of in ways that prevent fires, exposure to or harm from these substances.
  • Ensure that there are procedures in place to protect from any undesirable releases of harmful materials into the air, water or soil.
  • Provide employees and managers with the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize hazards and perform their jobs safely and effectively.
  • Perform accident investigations to determine the facts related to an accident or incident based on witness interviews, site inspections and collection of other evidence, and report findings to EHS Applications system on the Extranet. Take necessary actions to eliminate hazards or unsafe work procedures in the future.
  • Maintain EHS information to meet government requirements, as well as to provide data for problem-solving and decision-making.
We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
  • Education – Bachelor’s Degree in environmental, health and safety management or equivalent experience
  • Must be able to travel within the region (seldom outside the region)
  • Must have working knowledge of Federal and State OSHA and EPA regulations
  • Must be familiar with DOT, workers compensation, NFPA Consensus Standards, and Fire Safety Codes
  • Ability to speak Spanish preferred
  • CSP preferred
