Description

SUMMARY: Provides training and supervision of packaging employees. Conducts quality and safety inspections to ensure personnel are abiding and following all company policies and procedures. Supports all programs and policies that ensure that product is of the highest quality, meets specifications and is safe, legal and wholesome.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provides training and supervision to insure that employee are performing assigned work properly.
  • Evaluates subordinates performance, communicates with employees and provides information on improvement.
  • Monitors production to insure that safety, quality and standards are maintained.
  • While the packaging line is running and/or defrost is in process, you must be somewhere alongside the packaging production line and not visiting with the peeling supervisor for extended periods of time. You must be at your work station concentrating on the needs and duties of the packaging line.
  • Communicates with Shift Operations Supervisor and is available to review the quality of the product as they do their checks so that you can make adjustments and recommendations before a problem exists. You must inform shift supervisor of any changes you wish to make to the line including size of onions you are dicing, dicer speeds, temperature changes, etc.
  • Monitors condition of processing equipment, communicates to supervisor about any needed equipment repair.
  • Performs finished product quality analysis and documentation that finished products meet or exceed specifications as instructed by supervisor
  • Review production schedule to ensure proper packaging, identification and stacking are provided.
  • Ensures proper sanitation and cleaning practices are done as scheduled.
  • Completes checks on the Metal Detector and follows the policies and procedures related to these checks.
  • Completes the check on the scales to ensure they are weighing accurately and takes corrective action if necessary to be in compliance with the Boardman Foods policies.
  • Ask questions when necessary to plan for next shift.
  • Ensures all employees are wearing proper gear and follow GMP Program. Ensures all employees have washed and sanitized their hands prior to start shift and when returning from break periods.
  • Writes up suggestions for continuous improvement ideas.
  • Assists in the investigation of issues to determine root cause and prevention ideas.
  • Adheres to all safety, conduct rules and company policies and ensures those under your direction do as well or takes corrective action. You must follow all company policies and procedures and be aware of each of them so that you can train and follow up with your crew members to ensure they are following them as well.
  • Enforces company work rules and safety guidelines and must take corrective action for any associates who is not following company policies or procedures. This action should be in written form and be discussed with the associate in private with another supervisor as witness. Failure to take action for a food safety or employee safety issue may result in termination.
  • Understands that they are not authorized to fire anyone, but can send a person home for not following your direction or company policies and ask them to return the next business day to meet with management. If this occurs you must information management of the reason you sent them home with a discipline report.
  • Treats each person on the crew equally and fairly. This means that all persons are rotated on a regular basis to the various positions and timing, observing, training, coaching and counseling as needed amongst the entire crew.
  • Does not receive food or special items from the persons being supervised unless they are providing it to all crew members.
  • If you have any questions or concerns that you are not comfortable dealing with yourself, contact your manager immediately.
  • Other related duties may be assigned by the supervisor.
  • It is not necessary for this position to do every assignment included in this job description although it is preferred. If an accommodation is needed for any of these assigned tasks, you must submit a request with Human Resources Manager. This request must then be officially approved before it can go into effect. For those needing an accommodation it may be requested for even just one day.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. English is required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals in English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
