**Description**

Our stores can carry everything from text and trade books, technology, and school supplies to clothing, regalia, and food-- everything a college student desires, their parents want, and our faculty needs. An Assistant Department Manager in our Caf should support the management team, a model for customer service, a driver for sales, and a skillful problem solver.

As a Caf Assistant Department Manager you will support all operations of the caf in partnership with the management team. You will assist with managing the daily activities of the caf by leading and training team members to service our customers; ensuring the availability, freshness, and quality of products; and driving sales and promotions. You must be knowledgeable about caf operations, provide outstanding customer service; enforce safe food handling and loss prevention practices; and ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the caf.

**Expectations:**

* Spend the majority of your time in the caf preparing food/drinks, modeling exceptional customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, recommending products and providing daily support, direction, and guidance to booksellers.

* Maintain a working knowledge of all caf operations and assist in the preparation and serving of a variety of hot and cold food and drinks following prescribed recipes and techniques.

* Assist with assigning work and providing focused direction to caf team members to ensure the set up and restocking of displays, wrapping, labeling, dating, and rotating of food items for sale is executed daily.

* Help resolve customer issues and complaints and escalate to upper management, when necessary.

* Operate equipment, troubleshoot breakdowns, maintain supplies and perform preventive maintenance.

* Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following cleaning, sanitation, and operational standards. Food handling or safety certification may be required in some locations.

* Replenish customer service stations, order/receive supplies or products, and take out trash.

* Assist with processing sales transactions.

* Full-time positions require availability to work at least 30 hours on a weekly basis year round. Schedules may be set or vary to meet the needs of the store.

**Physical Demands:**

* Frequent movement within the store to access various departments, areas, and/or products.

* Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.

* Frequent lifting.

* Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.

**Qualifications:**

* Previous food handling and retail experience preferred.

* Prior supervisor or manager experience.

* High school diploma/GED preferred.

* Outstanding customer service skills to match customers to products that meet their needs.

* Basic reading, writing and accounting skills required.

* Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.

* Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
