Job title: Senior Agile Project Manager / Scrum Master
Department: US Information Technology
Reports to: US Head of IT
Location: Remote or a BMS Office
Position Overview:
The Senior Agile Project manager / Scrum master will be responsible for working directly with our business partners in BMS Re and report to the Head of IT for the Americas. The position is a multi-faceted role, skilled in change management, reinsurance, and information technology. The successful candidate will initially be required to work on multiple projects or varying sizes and potentially manage small change requests. This position will be a senior role, and critical to the evolution of our change management capabilities and Agile journey in the US. The position will be focused on generating and delivering significant value through the delivery of Americas-based projects, providing an understanding of our reinsurance business needs and technology, and ensuring projects are managed and run to a high quality with fit-for-purpose outcomes. This position will build strong relationships with all key stakeholders and other areas of IT (Information Technology) in the US and UK.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Serve as an Agile Project Manager / Scrum master for one or more teams
  • Have the ability to work in an environment that is moving towards Agile delivery frameworks
  • Capable of working in a waterfall and / or agile environment and assist with the transition to Agile frameworks
  • Provide regular project updates and reports (e.g., status reports / dashboards and Steering Committees)
  • Champion and coach individuals and teams in Agile delivery (e.g., Scrum and / or Kanban)
  • Institute Agile principles and facilitate Agile ceremonies (i.e., sprint planning, daily stand ups, sprint reviews, and sprint retrospectives)
  • Remove impediments and obstacles that affects the team’s progress and ability to deliver
  • Facilitate, create, and maintain scope documents, project plans, RAID logs, and other artifacts
  • Monitor project progress and ensure that the team meets its commitments
  • Enable the team to self-organize and make decisions
  • Coach the team on Agile principles and practices
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment
  • Maintain clear and open communication with all stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities for process and team improvements and help implement them
  • Identify and mitigate project risks and resolve issues
  • Ensure that the project stays on track and on schedule
  • Monitor and maintain quality standards throughout the project
  • Maintain Agile project documentation, including sprint plans, burndown charts, and retrospectives
  • Prepare post-project reports and evaluations
  • Develop and maintain strong business and IT relationships
  • Be hands on and actively own and drive forward all projects
  • Adopt and adhere to Agile (Scrum or Kanban) practices and principles
  • Providing subject matter expertise in the form of (re)insurance, general information technology, and technology and systems within financial services and (re)insurance
  • Capable working with vendor-based technology and in-house technology
  • A strong understanding and adherence to best practice
  • Ability to think wholistically, and build for the future, knowing when to be strategic or tactical
  • Be an advocate of continuous improvement, making suggestions to improve our capabilities
  • Provide a “best in class” level of customer service, continually striving for excellence
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, understanding the importance of transparency and communication
  • Provide input to Group IT, specifically change management
Other Responsibilities
  • Adhere to company and regulatory policies, and procedures, together with mandatory training requirements
  • Proactive collaboration with other areas of IT to remove obstacles and maintain the pace of development
  • Adhere to policies and procedures of the BMS Group IT Change Control process and Information Security
  • Self-starter and creative with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to day-to-day activities and work independently, knowing when to escalate
  • A strong desire to learn and continually improve
Required Education, Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in an associated field of study or the equivalent, preferably Information Technology
  • Certified Scrum Master, Project Management Professional, or equivalent is required
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience as a Project Manager / Scrum Master is required
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Financial Services is preferred
  • A minimum or 8 years of experience working in (re)insurance is required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong problem management/organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Must be collaborative and a team player with the desire to be part of a growing team

  • Adapts and responds well to change and pressure
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% if needed

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide marker range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary advanced to the desired candidate will be based on a number of factors, including geographic location and the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the desired candidate.
