This position develops, implements, and maintains supply acquisition, storage, and inventory
systems for the central inventory of supplies and equipment necessary to support patient care. Under the
direction of the Registered Nurse, this role is a member of the surgical team who works with Surgeons, Anesthesia personnel, RN’s and other personnel to perform delegated patient care duties according to the standards of the profession and the policies and procedures. Assists in preparing the set-up and implementation of the case to be performed by the Surgeon. The individual in this position will interface daily with patients, physicians, nursing staff and technologists to ensure quality services and continuum of care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent.

2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Associates Degree.

EXPERIENCE:

1. 3 years’ experience as a Surgical Technologist

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. In conjunction with OR Director and procurement, develops and manages efficient acquisition of surgical inventory materials.

2. Develops and maintains systems which assure the accuracy of perpetual inventory counts.

3. Develops and maintains inventory locator systems to facilitate easy retrieval of all items.

4. Develops and maintains reorder management systems (to include the application of par levels and min/max parameters) to assure a high level of customer service while minimizing inventory levels and inventory outages

5. Develops materials cost and inventory reduction programs and provides data to measure progress towards cost reduction targets.

6. Develops and analyzes reports (i.e. ABC analysis, usage history, ect) to target efforts to maximize inventory efficiencies.

7. Conducts year-end physical inventory and other periodic inventory counts as necessary.

8. Provides inventory expertise and technical liaison to Central Sterile Processing

9. Assures that the daily operational needs for supplies and equipment are met

10. Ascertains daily order requirements through Lawson recommendations, physical counts, and personal observation

11. Coordinates special deliveries from vendors.

12. Assists surgeon when necessary. Assist with immediate pre and post op care of patient, equipment and instrumentation. Second circulates as assigned

13. Utilizes quality aseptic technique when working in an unsterile role or in the OR.

14. Assists the circulating RN in monitoring technique of all persons in the OR to maintain a sterile field.

15. Performs sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating RN following established guidelines

16. Assists by gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments.

17. Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during a surgical procedure.

18. Processes supplies, instruments and equipment in patient care

19. Assists with the general cleaning duties of the department

20. Maintains accurate and appropriate records as directed. Utilizes the computer to process the patient requisitions. Enters patient and procedure information as required by various departments. Completes computer workflow functions. Organizes the workload for the area.

21. Will be responsible for operating and troubleshooting various equipment including but not limited to: electro-surgical cautery machine, suction, power equipment, microscope, laser, phaco emulsifier, irrigator, pulsevac, autoclaves, steris, laparoscope, surgical lights and tables.

1. Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 11-12 hour shift.

2. Able to ambulate, position, turn and pull up self-assisting adult patients.

3. Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40 lbs.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written.

2. Proficient in operating patient care equipment.

3. Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions and policies/standards/protocols.
