Job Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION Trouble shoots, dismantles, inspects, repairs, modifies, rebuilds, services and adjusts all types of plant equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Use mechanical skills to install, maintain and repair production equipment.
  • Troubleshoot potential equipment failures such as hydraulics, drive trains, and gear boxes.
  • Read, understand and explain blueprints and technical documents.
  • Operate machine and hand tools such as lathes, drill presses, and grinders.
  • Proficient working knowledge of Hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems rigging, welding, crane equipment.
  • Safely operate forklifts and radio-controlled overhead cranes.
  • Trouble shoots any electrical problem from 110-440 volts and makes necessary repairs.
  • Proficient operation of machine and hand tools such as lathes, drill presses, and grinders.
  • Set-up, calibrate equipment, and adjust machinery.
  • Perform preventative/predictive maintenance duties such as Thermography, pil analysis, and inspections to keep plant equipment serviced and running correctly.
  • Assists in the planning of shutdown and ability to direct activities including manpower requirements.
  • Cleans up after repairs to ensure safe working conditions and orderly operations of plant equipment.
  • Language skills: Able to read and comprehend detailed instructions, write simple instructions and communicate verbally with people.
  • Mathematical skills: Basic math skills such as add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Advanced skills such as algebra and geometry are also required.
  • Reasoning ability: Ability to apply common sense and understand to carry out detailed instructions.

Direction Exercised: Works in cooperation with the maintenance crew under the coordination of a Team Coordinator. Take direct supervision from the Area Manager and or Shift Supervisor.

Tools and Equipment: Usual bench tools, air and electric grinders, conduit bender, drills and saws, Roll grinding lathe, milling machine, engine lathe and pipe threader. Overhead cranes and hoist and other material handling equipment.

Materials Handled: Electrical components, hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, valves, pumps and motors, controls, gears and bearings, coating and squeegee rolls, welder and reflective torch.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:  High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) plus 2 years of experience in maintenance as a Millwright on a continuous metal processing line with equipment similar to a galvanizing or paint coating line. Preferred education as a Certified Millwright or equivalent training/degree from technical vocational institution.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, electrical / hydraulic / instrumentation schematics and drawings.
  • Ability to work with and apply mathematical concepts, such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Must possess basic knowledge in process computer controlled equipment and plant maintenance knowledge in electricity, electronics, instrumentation, combustion, steam and heat.

Pay Range: $41.97/Hr
