Overview

BlueHalo is looking for the right candidate to join our corporate IT operations team, supporting cyber engineers, software and hardware developers, technologists, and project staff within BlueHalo Labs / Tailored Mission Solutions (TMS). BlueHalo’s TMS division builds unique mission capabilities and depends upon our progressive and secure IT infrastructure as a critical service – vital to our ability to meet project needs and facilitate our engineering culture. Internally, we refer to our IT team as the IT Ninjas.

If selected, you will join a small team overseeing all aspects of designing, implementing, securing, managing, and monitoring information technology needed to enable BlueHalo’s Tailored Mission Solution’s business unit. The ideal candidate will not only have excellent communication skills and customer-focused mindset but will also have strong technical skills and an eagerness to provide hands-on support with IT projects, operations, and maintenance. This position will have a focus on user support, day-to-day operations, and strategic initiatives of TMS. As a member of the larger corporate IT team across the US, you will have access to other expertise and resources and many opportunities to learn and grow as an IT professional. This position requires proven time and management skills to support multiple, concurrent efforts and is located at BlueHalo’s Chantilly, VA office. An ability to support after-hours troubleshooting and regularly scheduled maintenance is expected.

Responsibilities

  • As part of the IT team, you will be responsible for all aspects of managing and advancing BlueHalo TMS’s IT infrastructure and its services
  • Support all TMS users and track applicable help desk actions and requirements
  • Monitor infrastructure and systems to proactively alert of pending issues before service interruption
  • Protect BlueHalo TMS data and systems from compromise or exposure
  • Develop project plans, migration plans, O&M plans, and disaster recovery plans – brief proposed plans to BlueHalo TMS leadership and provide regular status updates throughout execution
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues in-person, remotely, and via phone with end users
  • Implement enterprise-level management best practices, tailored to suit our network and security posture
  • Execute and maintain configuration management and IT automation
  • Support continuous security monitoring of the network and regular security audits
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies
  • Prepare and maintain documentation for systems, user guidance, policy, and practices

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Current SECRET clearance or higher
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent experience
  • At least 2 years of experience with network administration, security, and design with a strong focus on network hardware, VPNs, and intrusion detection
  • At least 2 years of experience with Windows, MacOS, or Linux administration and scripting ability to automate tasks
  • Proven ability to design solutions with proactive monitoring/alerting for potential issues before they disrupt service to users
  • Able to quickly respond to alerts/outages by diagnosing root cause and remediating the issue within a timely manner
  • A security-minded approach to all IT efforts
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Willingness to support end-users with all IT related issues, including after hours on-call support
  • Strong communication (both written and verbal) and technical documentation skills

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of intrusion detection and prevention methodologies, techniques, and toolsets/products
  • Understand concepts of network design, routing, and firewalling with proven ability to implement concepts on products such as VyOS, pfSense, and FortiGate
  • Experience with network security protocols (e.g., SSL/TLS, VPN, IPsec)
  • Strong, hands-on experience with Linux/Unix/MacOS security, internals, services, and administration
  • Understanding and experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMWare, VirtualBox, KVM, Proxmox)
  • Experience with Splunk configuration, tuning, and real-time alerting
  • Configuration management and deployment automation toolsets such as Ansible
  • Proven ability to automate administrative tasks with scripting languages such as Bash and Python
  • Experience with project and developer tools such as Confluence and GitLab
  • Familiarity with VOIP phone systems
  • Experience with Nessus and other security scanning tools
  • Ability to manage all phases of a project to include product research, technology selection, planning, budgeting, executing, testing, and documenting
