Warehouse Technician

Moody, AL

Responsibility & Authority

The Warehouse Technician is responsible for accurately and efficiently receiving, processing, maintaining, handling, repackaging and shipping materials within the warehouse according to written work instructions. The Warehouse Technician is responsible for completing various tasks as specified by the customer’s work instructions, direction, and general needs. Responsibilities can include, but are not limited to: maintaining safety and HR standards of conduct at all times; following detailed, written work instructions and job element sheets in a self-directed manner; meeting or exceeding expected production rates; assembling multiple parts; logging, maintaining, and documenting critical data as specified by the customer; taking direction from Bluegrass management, as well as the customer; and, any other tasks requested by the customer or Bluegrass. 

Requirements

Minimum Position Requirements (Skills & Abilities)

  • Basic Outlook and Excel experience
  • Create, read and interpret and suggest improvements of charts, graphs and other data
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Maintain accurate and legible records
  • Understand detailed verbal and/or written work instructions 
  • Ability to multitask and pay close attention to detail
  • Ability to train on multiple processes and to work in multiple areas on a regular basis
  • Ability to meet and exceed movement rates while maintaining safety and accuracy
  • Troubleshooting with a functional understanding of the supply chain process
  • Cleaning of work area during and following each shift
  • Organize and stock materials during and following each shift
  • Ability to read and understand complex and detailed work instructions

Essential Functions

  • Manage accuracy of data into receiving and inventory computer systems
  • Support the receipt of goods to support our customer
  • Process necessary documents for receipt and shipment of goods
  • Report defective materials or questionable conditions to leadership
  • Leverage technology to positively impact accuracy and efficiency
  • Timely arrival and departure for shifts and breaks
  • Participate in pre-shift meetings with each shift
  • Read SQDCM boards daily to ensure understanding priorities
  • Actively listen and consistently explore new opportunities to add value for our customer
  • Refrain from behaviors that have a negative impact on the team or the customer
  • Willing to train others
  • Provide feedback to leadership regarding process management and improvement
  • Accurate and timely data collection
  • Collaborate with customer management teams, clients and Bluegrass management
  • Work with various members of management regarding safety training, human resources, accounting tasks and data reporting
  • Resourceful and creative to make things happen when confronted by obstacles. Think outside the box for solutions that others might not see
  • Continually abide by safety, quality and LEAN/5S procedures
  • Identify and correct potential safety hazards in the facility
  • Take responsibility for your work
  • Serve as an ambassador for Bluegrass and our customers
  • Act with integrity at all times and treat everyone with respect
  • Dealing honestly and respectfully with all team members, leadership and customers

  • Follow packaging standards during repack and packaging functions
  • Understand warehouse management system functions and have ability to follow each step of the process

Physical Demands

A Warehouse Technician can work in any range of environments, from a climate-controlled space to a warehouse or factory floor where temperatures can vary from extreme cold to extreme heat. Warehouse Technicians must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time (up to 12 hours) on unpadded floors and will occasionally be required to bend, reach overhead, crouch, kneel, push/pull and grasp. Additionally, Warehouse Technicians will occasionally be required to lift or carry up to 50 lbs. Eye/hand coordination is also required. Exposure to chemical hazards, electrical hazards, sharp objects/tools, noise and vibration are anticipated. A Warehouse Technician must be able to read and follow detailed processes.

Tools & Equipment Used

  • Handheld scanning devices and other data collection tools
  • Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and WMS inventory management systems
  • Various production tools, including those powered by air pressure
  • Radios, mirrors, flashlights, micrometers, tape measures, dyes, paints, chemical cleaners, rulers, gauges, micrometers, calipers, hand tools, power tools, air tools, steel toed footwear, safety glasses, ear plugs, gloves, and any other tools and equipment required per customer request
  • Pallet jacks

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience

Prior warehouse experience is required, three years of experience is preferred. Customer service skills, communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and are required. Forklift experience and the ability to achieve and maintain forklift certification is highly preferred.
