Blue Sparrow Coffee is Hiring a Store Manager Near Denver, CO

The Position:

The is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the successful daily operation of their assigned location. The Store Manager must be highly organized, dependable, self-motivated, and have a positive outlook the company, the team, and their work.

Each Store Manager will report directly to the operating partner for all job duties and responsibilities.

What success looks like:

As a coffee shop manager, you will find yourself wearing many hats—barista, janitor, teacher, spreadsheet wizard, maybe even plumber. It’s your duty to do whatever it takes to ensure the successful daily operation of your store. As leaders, we work for our team, ensuring they have everything they need to excel in their job. Some examples are functioning equipment, efficient scheduling, training manual to reference, accurate payroll, and ordering / inventory management to ensure we never run out of anything. Online reviews are a powerful tool in today’s world and maintaining the highest review ratings possible while growing the number of reviews is highly important to the success of each location. The most important part is having a whatever it takes mentality to ensure successful operation 365 days a year. That may include finding creative ways to never run out of any inventory items or taking an uber to work in a blizzard to ensure we are always there for our community. It’s also expected to be done with a positive attitude, believing in the company, your team, and yourself.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Daily Operations

  • Ensuring that all inventory is carefully ordered and optimal for delivery of services (never running of anything), while minimizing waste and ensuring freshness of products.
  • Ensure exceptional cleanliness and organization of interior and exterior of the store
  • Execute training protocols to ensure that all staff members are trained in, and always following, local and state health department guidelines and pass inspections with zero violations
  • Follow all company policies and procedures for accurate and timely cash management including bank deposits, making change, and tracking all cash tips
  • Ensure that all staff are trained in daily sales and cash handling accountability and policies/procedures
  • Working closely with the operating partner to ensure that individual baristas are trained, and all team members are greeting, engaging, and communicating with all customers
  • Ensure that all baristas are focusing on fast, friendly, individualized attention towards each customer

Staff Management

  • Together with the operating partner set and maintain a high energy and positive atmosphere where baristas and customers feel safe from harm or harassment
  • Be leader of your team. Lead with empathy and listening first. Always be kind, respectful and represent the company in a positive way
  • Build and publish the schedule on time every week, ensuring adequate coverage, staying within the labor budget and expect to work 3-4 shifts a week as a barista, or more as needed to cover any shifts necessary
  • Verify timecard hours, credit card and cash tips, and submit for weekly payroll with 100% accuracy
  • As needed, assist with all aspects of hiring, orientation, and training of new team members
  • Provide input to the operating partner regarding performance of individual staff to assist with their mentoring for development and progress
  • Leading by example with a positive attitude is a must. never talk negatively about anyone (team members, supervisors, vendors, or customers)
  • Quickly and effectivity communicate to the team using Slack for any changes, updates and answer any questions. “If you can say it in 10 words, say it in 20.”
  • Maintain a high-quality reputation of the company thought timely and kind commination when working with anyone outside of the company

Financials

  • Ensure all ordering systems are efficient and vendor invoicing accurate and timely
  • Verify pricing and find opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining highest quality
  • Ensure that all invoices, credit card reports, and expense reports are submitted for payment weekly
  • Work towards meeting or exceeding financial the financial budgets set by the company
  • Improve cost of goods and labor by understanding what drives them and by implementing changes

Tools of the Job

  • Become highly proficient in using Microsoft excel, word, outlook by using self-guide leaning (YouTube)
  • Use Asana (task manager) daily to stay organized and share your accomplishments with your manager
  • Communicate quickly and often with all team members using Slack
  • Be proficient at using, and troubleshooting Homebase, Square, Spotify, Sonos, WIFI Networks, Website, Linktree, Yelp, Google, Happy Cow, Trip Advisor, Four Square, Expensify, Ramp, Dropbox, Microsoft Suite, and Doorloop
  • Know your coffee equipment inside and out. Use self-guided resources to learn about how to use

Maintenance

  • Responsible for keeping all equipment in ideal working condition, YouTube will be your best friend
  • Working knowledge of how to troubleshoot all equipment in the coffee shop
  • Quickly report any issues you cannot solve and complete workorder requests through Doorloop
  • Assist with routine maintenance like changing espresso machine gaskets, air filters, and water filters
  • Coordinate with outside workers to complete repairs after hours whenever needed
  • Get dirty! Expect to have a hands-on approach to problem solving and fixing. YouTube is a powerful resource

Online

  • Take ownership of the online presence of your store keeping all business info updated, manage online reviews, fulfill online orders, always keep the website up to date
  • Actively participate in social media to drive sales and manage the online reputation in a manner consistent with the company values
  • Work with the brand manager to post content online in line with company expectations
  • Communicate with customers, influencers, and journalist online to answer any questions in a manner consistent with the company values
  • Find new and creative ways to grow our online presence

Creativity

  • Be curious about our craft. Always seek improvement in all aspects of our business. Seek to always improve our products, techniques, and training through innovation, experimentation, and hard work.

Coffee

  • Able to reliably identify coffee by region by blind tasting pour over or cupping coffee
  • Consistent latte art and the ability to teach others at a high level
  • Quickly dial in espresso and batch brew coffee to brew the ideal beverage
  • A passion for coffee. When searching for jobs you didn’t even think about searching for anything other than “coffee,” “specialty coffee,” “third wave coffee,” “all things coffee”

Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of two years’ experience as a barista with a high-quality coffee shop
  • A minimum of two years’ experience as a Coffee Shop Manager
  • A passion for quality and scary attention to detail in all aspects of your work
  • Must be unwaveringly dependable and never backdown from a challenge
  • Hard working team player with a sense of urgency and positive, whatever it takes attitude
  • Flexible and willing to work long hours, early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, & inclement weather
  • Able to take creative direction and quickly implement new programs and material
  • Highly organized and able to accomplish a task in a timely manner with little to no guidance
  • Consider yourself an empathic in personal and professional life and be a good listener
  • Strong initiative. Identify areas for improvement and quickly implement solutions
