Prevention Education Associate - Bilingual Spanish Preferred

Location: Boulder, CO - On-Site Required

Pay Range: $24 - $29/hr, differential for fluent Spanish speakers

Anticipated Timeline:

Blue Sky Bridge is a non-profit organization located in Boulder, Colorado, working in prevention, intervention, and treatment of child abuse. We use the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) model to create a child-focused approach to abuse investigations in partnership with law enforcement, social services and the District Attorney’s office. Blue Sky Bridge provides skilled forensic interviews and medical exams of children as well as crisis counseling and support to non-offending caregivers, therapy for children and families, and education programs to increase community awareness and to empower the community to prevent sexual abuse of children. Blue Sky Bridge is a well-established organization in Boulder County with a strong base of financial support.

The person filling this role will work with and support the Prevention Education program at Blue Sky Bridge. This program delivers body safety presentations to elementary school students throughout Boulder County. The program also provides adult training on creating safe communities and engages in outreach work to share educational opportunities provided by Blue Sky Bridge.

The Education Associate will deliver Blue Sky Bridge programming in schools and provide adult training in the community. Since travel to schools in our district is required, this position will be eligible for mileage reimbursement.

This is an hourly position with 20-25 hours per week available. Working hours are

generally between 8:00am and 4:30pm M-Th. Occasional Friday/evening/weekend hours will be required for presentations, adult training and community outreach. Some flexibility is required, as the specific days and hours worked during M-F 8:00-5:00 can vary. The ability to attend department and staff meetings on Wednesday mornings is required. This is a school-year position: the education associate will work August-May.

Prevention Education Associate :

GENERAL DUTIES: To deliver prevention education programming in local schools and throughout the community.

  • School based program:
  • Represent Blue Sky Bridge at assigned schools
  • Deliver curriculum to Kindergarten, 3rd grade, and 5th grade students
  • Coach volunteer presenters on best practices
  • Take disclosures from students using minimal facts protocol.
  • Make appropriate referral to Law Enforcement and Human Services when disclosures of abuse are made by students.
  • Communicate with Education Program Director and document reports
  • Communicate with teachers, counselors, administrators and other personnel as needed.
  • Outreach and training:
  • Conduct general and targeted outreach to solicit and promote adult training.
  • Develop content expertise over time in order to successfully deliver adult training.
  • Attend and promote Blue Sky Bridge fundraising activities as requested.
  • Staff outreach events, community fairs, etc., on behalf of Blue Sky Bridge
  • Represent Blue Sky Bridge on community committees as needed.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships in the community.
  • Organizational:
  • Attend Prevention Education Team meetings.
  • Assist with training education volunteers and interns.
  • Remain current regarding the latest child abuse issues, research, journals, and prevention techniques.
  • Attend training as necessary.
  • Conduct on-going education program evaluation and needs assessments, as designated by the Prevention Education Team Director.
  • Collaborate and communicate within the team and across Blue Sky Bridge teams to further the mission of Blue Sky Bridge.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Fluent Spanish Speaker preferred
  • Organized, enthusiastic, efficient and committed personality that is able to work independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Ability to maintain data as related to program evaluation.
  • Understanding of and commitment to working with diverse people and families.
  • Knowledge of issues surrounding child sexual abuse/neglect, child development, and trauma or interest in learning
  • The ability to speak in public/make presentations.
  • Access to a reliable personal vehicle
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • An ability to “change gears” and work collaboratively with internal staff and external partners.
  • A willingness to engage in ongoing professional reflection and growth.
  • Comfort working with both children and adults.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (Psychology, Social Work, Teaching etc.) is preferred. Candidates who do not have a degree in these specific fields but have relevant experience will also be considered. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Work environment/Physical activities:

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and lifting materials up to 10lbs
  • Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier and other office equipment.
  • Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to perform puppet shows during student presentations
  • Requires eyesight correctable to 20/20 to read script out loud while presenting
  • Requires hearing within normal range for responding to students in the classroom and hallway.
  • Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people (interns, volunteers, school staff, students and BSB staff members).
  • Must be able to communicate in a professional manner.
  • Must be able to resolve problems, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure.
  • Requires public speaking
  • Requires reading written curriculum out loud and responding to student questions
  • Ability to receive and incorporate feedback
