Blue Origin is Hiring a Sr Software Development Engineer - Enterprise Launch & Operate Technology (R40581) Near Space Coast, FL

This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we’re developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin’s mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

You will directly impact the history of space exploration and this role will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.

As a key technical leader within a passionate and accomplished team developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, you will focus on rapidly delivering trusted enterprise software solutions to the engineers, technicians, and other decision-makers at Blue Origin, enabling them to operate our engines and vehicles at an increasingly rapid cadence. This is a unique opportunity to have a primary role in creating the systems used to drive technical decisions at the heart of our business.

As a senior engineer, you will be the first member of a new development team focused on the rapid development and delivery of a critical software product. You will need to serve multiple roles in this start-up team and take on rapidly delivering incremental progress with an approach that proves to be performant and scalable over the long run. The tools you create will be used daily in testing our engines, and flying and otherwise operating New Glenn, New Shepard, and future Blue Origin vehicles. You will define significant portions of the overall strategy, and have a significant role in establishing team culture and practices.

Our team demands technical depth and skill matched with humility and capability to be wrong, listen, adapt and ultimately find lasting solutions. We are looking for someone who has an approach hallmarked by rapid delivery and continuous-improvement and who is ready to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tactical progress toward an enterprise software solution while working with domain experts and the dedicated Technical Product Manager to accurately define and demonstrate significant portions of the overall strategic plan
  • Provide technical leadership in our software and platform development in two ways. 1) Through taking ownership of significant capabilities and rapidly and iteratively delivering for customers and 2) Broadening the team’s development capabilities as a mentor.
  • Design and develop software systems and infrastructure in languages like Java, Python, Rust, and TypeScript.
  • Build web user interfaces in frameworks like Angular and React.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to understand their needs and design solutions that accelerate all phases of vehicle development, testing, and operation, up to and including the day of launch.
  • Integrate and extend commercial products using GraphQL, REST web services, and message queues.
  • Fix software problems at multiple levels, including installation, deployment, configuration, server-side and client-side issues.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree or higher in computer science, aerospace, or a related field with a focus on software development

  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

Blue believes we must protect Earth by moving heavy industries that stress our planet into space, and enable humanity to access space to expand, explore, and find new energy and material resources. Then we can see a dynamic and abundant future for our grandchildrens grandchildren. There is no plan B for Earth. To enable this future, we must build a road to space to lower the cost of getting there. Blue is working on this today by developing... operationally reusable launch vehicles that are safe, reliable and highly available. Every launch vehicle is designed for human spaceflight from the beginning and able to ferry payloads to space. Join the mission to build a road to space - step by step ferociously. #GradatimFerociter More
