Blue Origin is Hiring a GSE & Tooling Engineer III (R39989) Near Huntsville, AL

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Facilities, and Security. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will apply standard engineering knowledge and methods to design tools and equipment for manufacturing and operation of aerospace systems. Researches, develops and implements improvements to tooling and equipment to improve product quality. Works with engineering to identify problems with performance. Recommends solutions or enhancements. Documents experiments, tests and tooling development activities in reports. Supports production assemblers and operations with new or modified tools.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop high quality production, development, and test stand integration tooling for Blue Engines
  • Capable of integrating concepts and principles of mechanical design and analysis of several different projects in a fast-paced environment -- projects will vary in size and scale
  • Ability to interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) in crafting tooling drawing definitions
  • Handle a wide range of technical problems and familiar with all types of assembly fixtures, material handling, off-loaders, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines
  • Close collaboration with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration engineering to achieve the best possible cradle to grave metrics (safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, life, and maintenance/refurbishment)
  • Lead projects including, fabrication, inspection, equipment installation, and commissioning of tooling
  • Set, implement, and maintain schedules and budgets to ensure project completion
  • Facilitate effective and collaborative communication by encouraging creativity and demonstrating team member strengths
  • The ability to work in a team environment is a must. All designs are the collective effort of the team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in any Engineering field from an accredited institution
  • 5 years of work or project experience with design, build, and commissioning of tooling and fixtures for manufacturing, assembly, and test.
  • Experience using CAD and FEA-based analysis software for structural applications.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience crafting/drafting structural parts, precision components, and/or subsystems
  • Strong expertise in design for manufacturability and design for assembly including experience taking products from development design to rate production
  • Proven understanding of common manufacturing materials, GD&T, and tolerance/stack-up analysis
  • Experience crafting tooling(machining fixtures, assembly jigs, test support equipment) to support production of aerospace systems
  • Confirmed understanding of common manufacturing processes such as machining, turning, welding, sheet-metal bending, lifting/rigging, assembly, inspection, etc
  • Experience with structural analysis in addition to the ability to perform hand calculations
  • Experience with ProE/Creo and Windchill CAD/PDM systems
  • Experience with ANSYS Workbench, FEMAP Pre/Post processing, NASTRAN Solver, NX Advance Simulation, etc.
