Blue Origin is Hiring a FPGA Firmware Engineer Near Los Angeles, CA

The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, which is focused on development, manufacturing, and operation of satellite systems to address one of the most compelling challenges in spaceflight today: space mobility. As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will need to possess a range of skills and experience to ensure the safe and reliable operation of critical systems. As an Avionics FPGA Firmware Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, verifying, and testing firmware for systems operating in harsh environments and under demanding conditions.

To be successful in this role, one should have experience in developing firmware for FPGA-based avionics systems, as well as a deep understanding of FPGA development languages such as VHDL or Verilog. Knowledge of FPGA development tools and methodologies, including simulation, synthesis, and verification, is also a key skill for one's success.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop firmware requirements in coordination with systems engineering, hardware engineering, software engineering, and subsystem owners.
  • Develop FPGA designs and implementations using hardware description languages.
  • Perform verification using techniques such as simulation, Verilog, SystemVerilog, VHDL, OVM, and UVM.
  • Author tests, and documentation, and participate in design reviews.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field, or related experience.
  • 4 years of FPGA/ASIC design and verification work experience.
  • Validated firmware development skills in real-time embedded systems, particularly in Verilog/SystemVerilog/VHDL.
  • Experience crafting, developing, and verifying high-performance FPGA or ASIC solutions for use in highly integrated (SW and HW) systems.
  • Proven understanding of NASA Procedural Requirements NPR 7150.2, DO-254 as compliance for the design assurance of electronic hardware in airborne systems, or other safety-critical software standards.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and build a culture of teamwork.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6 years of FPGA/ASIC development experience.
  • Experience with Modelsim, or Questasim simulators and Synopsys tools for design from vendors such as Microchip, Xilinx, and/or Altera.
  • Experience using Xilinx Vivado and/or Intel Quartus development platforms to optimally build, test, and deploy hardware implementations.

About Blue Origin

Blue Origin was founded in 2000 by Jeff Bezos with the vision to enable a future where millions of people are living and working in space to benefit Earth. Blue believes we must protect Earth by moving heavy industries that stress our planet into space, and enable humanity to access space to expand, explore, and find new energy and material resources. Then we can see a dynamic and abundant future for our grandchildrens grandchildren. There is no plan B for Earth. To enable this future, we must build a road to space to lower the cost of getting there. Blue is working on this today by developing... operationally reusable launch vehicles that are safe, reliable and highly available. Every launch vehicle is designed for human spaceflight from the beginning and able to ferry payloads to space. Join the mission to build a road to space - step by step ferociously. #GradatimFerociter More
