JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision, performs responsible administrative work to provide information and direction to the public on processes and requirements associated with roadway construction, community development, planning, and building. Provides assistance and support to professional planning, engineering, and highway department staff.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Responsible for the investigation, resolution, and reporting of all citizen related complaints;
• Prepare draft public announcements to inform citizens of activities that impact safe roadway travel;
• Research, compile, and analyze a variety of data for special projects and various reports;
• Acquire easements for construction and maintenance;
• Oversee property acquisitions for citizens that desire to give up right of way for road improvements;
• Coordinate survey plats for encroachments and easements;
• Serve as the main point of contact for the County attorney on legal review for project documentation;
• Liaise with the County Human Resources department on behalf of the employees of the Highway Department and oversee duties such as: Training, FMLA, Annual Performance Reviews, Drug Screenings, Benefits, Retirement Coordination, PTO time, etc;
• Update and maintain a variety of files and records; and
• Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college of university preferred;
• At least three (3) years of customer service experience required;
• Two (2) years of responsible experience in building, planning, and development within a governmental agency preferred;
• Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
• Valid driver’s license.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• The ability to remain calm under pressure;
• Ability to resolve customer complaints and issues while maintaining a professional and calm demeanor;
• Efficiency and organizational skills;
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software; and
• Ability to cooperate with fellow employees as a team member.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Work requires lifting and carrying (up to 10 pounds); grasping, handling, hearing, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern office setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning.
• Work hours: Monday –Thursday 6:30am to 4:30pm
