POSITION DESCRIPTION
SUBJECT: Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA)
STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The CRNA will safely and effectively administer anesthesia according to the needs to each patient
REPORTS TO: Medical Director
RESPONSIBILITIES: (will include Category I and Category II Tasks):
1. Evaluates history and physical and all other pertinent lab data
2. Evaluates each patient for surgery
3. Inserts intravenous catheters
4. Administers intravenous sedation
5. Administers periocular block, if needed
6. Administers topical anesthesia when required
7. Administers general anesthesia when required
8. Transports patients to surgery
9. Monitors the patient in pre-op and surgery by checking the blood pressure, pulse, respiration and level of consciousness
10. Assist in the preoperative and postoperative care of patients
11. Supervision of the non-RN staff in OR when needed
12. Assists the RN and physician with medical emergencies until the situation resolves or emergency medical personnel arrives
13. Evaluates patient prior to discharge
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduate from an accredited school of nursing
2. Graduate from and accredited school of nurse anesthetists
3. Current Ohio Registered Nurse license
4. Current CPR certification
5. Certification from the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists with current recertification in continuing education
6. Current ACLS certification
