Pull up a chair and join us by the hearth! Blizzard is looking for a Game Designer to join the Hearthstone final design team. As a Game Designer on the card design team, you will have the core responsibility and specialization in making fun-to-play, clear, and balanced cards for our upcoming expansions, as well as ensuring a healthy and competitive meta for the live game. You will work closely with the initial design team to translate thematic mechanics and initial cards designs into shippable products. Your player insight, analytical abilities, and creativity will help create player-focused changes that will surprise and delight millions of players all around the world. As with every designer on the Hearthstone team, you will be a champion of Blizzard's core values, especially "Commit to Quality".
This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work required to be on-site and some work-from-home. The home studio for this role is Irvine, CA.
Responsibilities

• Maximize your knowledge of Hearthstone's evolving meta to identify, iterate, and balance released and unreleased cards, aiming to create a fun, healthy, and balanced experience for every type of Hearthstone player
• Use your keen design and analytical sensibilities to help design and develop cards, concepts, and flavor that encapsulates the charm of Hearthstone
• Scripting and implementing cards using internal tools
• Participating in playtests and giving feedback to other designers' cards
• Set the example for your team and for others to follow, listen, and respect. Inspire designers through your actions, so that others may observe and be motivated to join in
• Advocate for and explain product vision and design decisions both inside and outside the final design team

Minimum Requirements
Knowledge and Skills

• 2 years of professional game design experience
• Expert level understanding of competitive play and deck building in digital collectable card games
• A strong sense of what makes a gameplay experience compelling and fun, as well as the ability to articulate well why a game design decision is good or bad
• A demonstrable understanding of the how the meta in competitive card games evolves as a consequence of the introduction of new mechanics and synergies

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $29.81 - $55.14 Hourly. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role's range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed.
