PROJECT ESTIMATORDepartment: Estimating
Location: Altoona, PA
FLSA Status: Regular, Full Time, Hourly
Summary
As a Project Estimator at Blair Image Elements, you will play a pivotal role in our Estimating department, ensuring the accurate cost estimation of proposals and site quotes. In addition to preparing estimates, you will work closely with the engineering department to understand construction methods related to all types of signage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Estimate Preparation: Prepare estimates covering product, installation, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Proposal Tracking: Monitor program proposals to ensure adequate time for thorough completion.
  • Drawing and Specification Review: Analyze drawings and specifications for take-off quantities and material call-outs.
  • Communication: Engage with engineers, project owners, and clients to gather essential project information.
  • Supplier and Subcontractor Interaction: Solicit quotes from material suppliers and subcontractors as needed.
  • Margin Review: Periodically review margins to guarantee accurate quoting.
  • Collaboration: Work with the sales team to assemble bid submission documents, prepare quotes, and ensure proper delivery.
  • Change Order Pricing: Prepare pricing for change orders as needed.
  • Project Hand-Off: Effectively hand off projects to assigned Project Managers and Engineers upon award.
  • Post Award Support: Assist with post-award item description setup for new programs. Includes item creation and initial BOO temiplate.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Assume additional tasks assigned by senior management that are logically inherent to this position.

Expectations and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction or Engineering is preferred but not required.
  • Prior estimating experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD preferred.
  • Meticulous and precise in approach; quality-conscious and thorough.
  • Person of integrity with excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage challenging projects.
  • Collaborative team player with a systems-thinking mindset.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel, and Adobe. AutoCAD experience a plus.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of working at a desk and computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Navigate and access various departments within the organization's facilities.
  • Adaptability to the fast-paced nature of the industry, with schedule changes possible with little advance notification.
