Black Family Development, Inc. (BFDI), headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, is a 501©3 organization, founded in 1978 by the Detroit chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers. Our youth- focused, and family-centered organization provides services in Detroit, Wayne County.
BFDI is a CARF accredited, licensed, comprehensive human services organization committed to serving all persons, while specializing in evidence-based counseling, treatment, and advocacy for persons of color. Agency programming includes early childhood resources and literacy development, a 3-tiered juvenile justice service array, mental health prevention and treatment, substance use disorder prevention and treatment, boys and young men of color supportive resources, school-based intervention, and trauma-informed care. Our organization is seeking a Full-Time position with the corresponding education/experience requirements:
Project Launch – Infant Mental Health Specialist
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
The Infant Mental Health Specialist provides services to parents, guardians, or caretakers of pre-school age children who are experiencing difficulties with bonding and attachment processes.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Conduct parenting-focused coaching, counseling and educational sessions with parents and their children to help build skills and promote positive parent-infant attachment.
· Assist parents of children with developmental, mental, behavioral, or emotional disturbances to gain skills and connect with parenting resources.
· Support infant and early childhood professionals to build skills, promote positive interactions with children and parents, and to prepare for Infant Mental Health Endorsement (IMH-E) where desired. Could also include support/supervision of MH interns
· Annual biopsychosocial assessment, development and implementation of a Person-Centered Plan, and crisis intervention when needed.
· Treatment modalities may include individual, conjoint, family, psycholinguistic, and psychoeducational models of therapeutic intervention, as well as some case management.
· Conducts home and community-based visits with families and participates in interdisciplinary team meetings with internal and external child serving partners.
COMPETENCIES
· Minimum of two years of post-graduate supervised clinical experience, including experience providing case management services, crisis intervention, psychoeducation, and counseling for persons with young children, toddlers, and infants.
· Knowledge and experience with prevalent theories of child development a must.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in social work, clinical psychology, counseling, or other related human services field from an accredited university. Professional licensure, specifically licensed or limited licensure as related to human services degree. Preferred: Infant Mental Health Specialist (IMHS) Mi-AIHM Endorsement or higher.
