Nurse Practitioner role needed in a post-operative patient population vascular unit at Barnes Jewish Hospital. The Nurse Practitioner will work in close collaboration with Vascular Surgeons in a fast paced environment. At the Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Heart & Vascular Center, our heart surgeons are pioneers in breakthroughs for heart disease treatment. The Cardiac stepdown division supports the care continuum for post-surgical cardiac patients.¿ Nurses provide specialized acute care in a fast-paced environment. It is recognized as a Center of Excellence by the Joint Commission for left ventricular assist device implantation and management and care of the patient after heart transplantation surgery. Nurses in this environment possess strong critical thinking skills and are able to make autonomous decisions.¿ Nurses also have the opportunity to be involved in the patient's progress from the immediate post-op period all the way through discharge. The staff in this unit demonstrates a true passion for nursing and joy for their work.

Role Purpose

The Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse who utilizes a high degree of knowledge, skill and competence in a specialized patient care area. This position assesses, diagnose, prescribes, initiates plan of care and evaluates outcomes within the scope of a formal collaborative practice agreement with physician(s).
