Additional Information About the Role

BJC HealthCare is seeking a Document Imaging Specialist for our Healthcare Information Management team at Mid Campus Center. 

We are seeking individuals with experience within office duties such as scanning and uploading to an electronic filing system. This individual will be collecting patient documentation from clinical areas of the hospital and prepping, scanning and uploading them to patient charts. 

Hours: 7am-3:30 pm M-F

Role Purpose

The Health Information Management (HIM) Document Imaging Specialist ensures the accurate and timely collection of clinical documentation that is generated during patient care and treatment. Using artificial intelligence, the patient records are uploaded into our legal record of care repository. The record transfer process requires collaboration with our clinical staff, providers, and HIM staff. Key factors of success of the record completion are to decrease errors, improve efficiency and safety by expediting the documents to support continuum of care. Skills need for HIM staff are excellent communication, collaboration with clinical staff, critical thinking process for navigating the document cross walks to ensure accurate document types and descriptions are identified.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and completes timely collection of patient documents by assigned areas of patient care concurrently and post discharge and adheres to infection control protocols in public and patient care areas.
  • Collaborates with nursing personnel on chart maintenance with use of a decision-making matrix to identify forms to remain on the patient care unit.
  • Documents will be prepped to ensure no staples or paper clips are attached, any loose documents that need to be secured and repair of any torn documents, scanned and indexed into the artificial intelligence (AI application) and then moved to the record of care repository.
  • Analyzes and resolves indexing issues moved to an exception queue that will be addressed and re-entered into the AI application.
  • Investigates and resolves medical record exceptions; ensures quality, completeness and accuracy of the electronic medical record and ensures timely medical record completion in support of compliant coding/billing practices.
