The Nurses on this unit support the care continuum for the post-surgical cardiac patient. Nurses provide specialized acute care in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. It is recognized as a Center of Excellence for left ventricular assist device implantation and management and care of the patient after heart transplantation surgery. Nurses in this environment possess strong critical thinking skills and are able to make autonomous decisions. Nurses also have the opportunity to be involved in the patient’s progress from the immediate post-op period through discharge. Role Purpose

Under the direction of manager, plans, directs, and coordinates activities of a unit on a designated shift. Performs direct patient care as needed and functions as clinical resource to nursing and support staff. Assesses, plans, evaluates and documents the nursing process of assigned unit as needed.
