Qualifications:

Professional degree in Architecture plus seven years of experience in architectural planning and design. Registration as an Architect in the State of Managua or a valid Architectural License eligible for reciprocal registration in the Central, South America and Carribean Island.

Thorough knowledge of building codes

Thorough knowledge of construction methods and materials, and methods of conducting field surveys and documenting existing conditions

Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD and the ability to produce freehand sketches of proposed construction details or design solutions.

Job Description:

Assists the design team in identifying program requirements, developing design concepts, and executing the preparation of construction documents and specifications. Plans and supervises the preparation of construction drawings and specifications of all Campus Projects for which in-house design is elected. Ensures that all requirements of the project are included in the construction documents and apprises all design team members of changes that occur in the design and construction process.

Oversees and coordinates the production efforts of the design team and monitors for accuracy and assurance of compliance with applicable building codes, office standards, and University of Maryland standards. Reviews the work of outside design firms for Campus Projects for which in-house design is not elected. Delegates and assigns portions of the work to design staff including staff architects, engineers and interior designers.

Supervises and reviews the work of staff architects and mechanical designers and other personnel involved in the project including performance of field investigations, preparing project schedules, assigning staff, and performing quality assurance reviews on work produced by the design team. Plans and implements project schedules for projects as assigned in the design group.

Assists the Project Manager as required during construction administration by coordinating review of shop drawings and submittals, monitoring construction for conformance to construction documents, and performing punch list inspections.

Serves as the liaison between the design team, Project Managers and customers. Confers with appropriate faculty and administrative personnel regarding proposed construction and alteration plans to establish program requirements.
