Job Summary

The Academic Dean partners with the Associate Principal of Instructional Practices and Student Care, and the Principal to intentionally facilitate a culture of care by planning, organizing and implementing appropriate teacher support and new-teacher programming in a charism-aligned learning environment. 

  • Summer Academy
    • Oversees the Summer Academy program – hiring, program set up, course registration, parent communications, marketing, food program and curriculum.
  • WCEA Coordinator
    • Facilitation and coordination of the annual report and six-year process.
  • New Teacher Mentorship Program 
    • Oversees and manages the new teacher mentorship program, which consists of orientation, monthly meetings, academic support, and coaching cycles.
    • In dialogue with APs, observes new teachers three times yearly.
    • Supports new teachers in their understanding of and participation in the Bishop O’Dowd culture and community.
  • Professional Development Program
    • Creates a needs assessment survey to evaluate professional growth needs, opportunities, and development.
    • Facilitates the professional development committee with the Associate Principal.
    • Schedules, coordinates and facilitates monthly professional development training, PLCs, and beginning-of-the-year PD meetings. 
    • Working in collaboration with the Director of Campus Ministry, actively supports the Catholic mission of the school in the classroom and throughout school programs.
  • Opening of School Events
    • Coordinates with the Associate Principal of Instructional Practices and Student Care the opening of school meetings, planning, and orientations with other stakeholders. 
    • Sends calendar invites, coordination of room location, catering needs, correspondence, and all items related to executing the event.
  • Student Facing Academic Supports
    • Coordinates and monitors all Academic Integrity investigations, and works on final outcomes with the Associate Principal of Instructional Practices and Student Care. 
    • Logs academic integrity infractions into PowerSchool.
    • In coordination with the Director of Academic Supports, monitors the progress of students on academic probation and tiered supports.
    • Facilitates, schedules, and chairs Academic Review Board meetings in January, May/June, and August. 
    • Collaborates as needed with the Director of Counseling Services.
    • Monitor student academic contracts and schedule bi-monthly check-in meetings with the Associate Principal of Instructional Practices and Student Care.
  • Restorative Practices
    • In collaboration with the Associate Principal of Instructional Practices and Student Care, Dean of Students, and Director of Inclusion and Belonging, develop and propose a restorative practices model for student discipline and academic integrity.
  • Student Care Committee
    • Participates and attends Student Care committee team meetings.
  • Support and be a member of the administrative team to ensure all academic expectations are being met in alignment with the mission and vision and charism of the Bishop O’Dowd community.
  • Other items as assigned by the Associate Principal of Instructional Practices and Student Care, and the Principal.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated understanding of and passion for high school education and adolescent development.
  • Evidenced knowledge of and experience in the required job area
  • Proven ability to differentiate access and provide experiences for diverse community needs
  • Ability to foster a safe, inclusive, equitable, and joyful working environment
  • A nuanced understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion from a personal and/or professional perspective
  • Have experience authentically engaging with diverse working environments
  • Proven success in collaborating with colleagues and innovating practices
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or related education or experience applicable to the responsibilities of the position
