SUMMARY
Bishop Moore Catholic High School is seeking applicants for the position of Assistant Cross-Country Coach. This position is a seasonal position with a stipend. The role of the assistant coach is to be responsible for not only assisting the head coach in managing the student-athletes participating, but also creating and developing an overarching vision and culture for the entire program. This includes character development, skill development, and student maturation, in addition to providing appreciation for achieving a high level of discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. This job requires you to interact thoughtfully and respectfully with student-athletes, fellow coaches, staff, parents and community and follow the mission of our school. An excellent understanding of cross-country guidelines, regulations, and FHSAA requirements are supplemented by positive communication strategies, organizational skills, and safety awareness in this role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in an order of importance. • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions, to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
• Use a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student-athletes in cross country.
• Determine meet strategy based on the athletes’ capabilities.
• Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property.
• Instill sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times.
• Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, and facilities, including protecting students from hazing/bullying.
• Maintain and secure all cross-country equipment and uniforms.
• Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.
• Represent Bishop Moore Catholic and the cross-country program in a professional manner.
• Maintain nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
• Attend staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
• Perform any other related duties as assigned by the varsity head coach and Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Must successfully pass Diocesan Safe Environment Training and Background Screening process.
• Comprehensive knowledge of cross country and running is paramount.
• Knowledge of NFHS and FHSAA rules.
• Demonstrated ability to instruct and supervise student-athletes.
• 2-4 years of experience coaching cross country, track, and/or distance running.
• Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
• Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, opponents, staff, parents, and students.
• Must be a self-starter and motivated person with high energy and discipline to accommodate the rigorous and early morning schedule of cross country.
