About us: Biscayne High School (MYcroSchool) is an innovative and individualized learning diploma program focused on providing an opportunity for young people to earn an accredited high school diploma in a competency based and high-tech environment with caring teachers.

Primary Function: Provide a combination of classroom-based and on-line instruction to high school students, in one or more assigned areas; demonstrate the skills and abilities to work in both an in person and a virtual learning environment; collaborate with staff to provide an optimal learning environment for at-promise students; evaluate student progress and communicate progress to students; implement teacher standards.

  • Assigned Responsibilities:
  • Develop and teach skills and knowledge both in-person and virtually in one or more courses and/or grade level utilizing course(s) of study adopted by MYcroSchool.
  • Instruct students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study specified by state law and MYcroSchool policy and procedures.
  • Maintain proper control and discipline in a positive manner by establishing good, wholesome rapport through healthy, human relationships between individuals involved in the learning process and in accordance with MYcroSchool policy and procedure.
  • Evaluate student progress, consistent with school policy and philosophy, keep appropriate records, prepare appropriate student reports, and effectively communicate with students, supervisors, and parents.
  • Provide multiple opportunities for students to upgrade work and improve their performance.
  • Perform basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in professional growth activities.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and/or group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying abilities, and cultural backgrounds.
  • Create, with assistance from students, a functional and attractive environment for learning through displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Work collaboratively with subject area and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Attend and contribute to collaboration meetings.
  • Select and requisition books, instructional aides, instructional supplies, and maintain required inventory records.
  • Ensure a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting, and ventilation to the extent possible.
  • Administer group-standardized tests.
  • Assume responsibility for a reasonable amount of non-teaching activities such as directing of extra-curricular work, teachers’ meetings, professional study, inservice training, curricula revision, student supervision, and other similar activities.
  • Be familiar with state teaching standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge/Abilities:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Effective teaching strategies to ensure pupil learning in subjects taught
  • Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable state publications, such as curriculum frameworks
  • Basics of core subjects taught in the MYcroSchool program including English, Math, Science, and Social Studies
  • Local partners rules, policies, and procedures
  • MYcroSchool rules, policies, and procedures
  • Curriculum, instruction, and assessment processes
  • Technology and computer software applications relative to instruction and administration
  • Florida Standards for the Teaching Profession

ABILITY TO:

  • Plan and teach lessons to individuals or small groups.
  • Accept individual differences in pupils and parents
  • Effectively work with and relate to students with individual needs
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, school personnel, parents, and co-workers
  • Communicate effectively in the English language both orally and in writing
  • Meet scheduled time lines
  • Learn and use technology and computer software applications as appropriate to the work environment
  • Use tact, patience, and courtesy when dealing with people
  • Use initiative and judgment in discussing problems with the public and district staff, involving office practices and policies
  • Understand and be sensitive to those of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor’s degree is required
  • Appropriate experience desired
  • Licenses and Other Requirements:
  • Valid FL Social Studies teacher certification
  • Compliance with No Child Left Behind
  • ESOL Authorization
  • Valid Florida driver’s license
  • Working Conditions:

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Indoor, office setting; classroom environment

PHYSICAL and MENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Sits, stands, walks, bends, kneels and uses hands, arms and legs for dexterity and balance frequently
  • Occasionally lifts, carries and balances light objects
  • Pulls and pushes such objects as files, audio/visual equipment and similar office equipment and supplies
  • Occasionally may be required to perform the safe operation of a vehicle
  • Safely operate office equipment and machines
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing frequently with a wide range of people from divergent socio-economic backgrounds and origins

Work Year: July 1st to June 30th

Supplements: Master’s Degree $1,500.00, Doctorate Degree $2,000.00, Dual Certification $3,000.00.
