BIRNS, Inc. is Hiring a Quality Inspector Near Oxnard, CA

Job Description

Seeking an energetic and experienced Quality Inspector with deep mechanical inspection experience. We are a leading ISO 9001:2015 certified high-tech manufacturer in West Ventura County and the performance and quality leader in our field—developing, manufacturing and marketing high-performance underwater lighting and connector systems which improve the safety and efficiency of the Marine, Military, and Nuclear Power Generation industries.

Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the Quality Inspector teams with our small, dynamic Quality group and Production team, and interfaces with Engineering personnel, to ensure that all products are manufactured in a controlled and cost effective manner, delivering zero-defect products—on time—to our customers for total customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Incoming, in-process and final inspection of mechanical components and completed products, using such tools as automated PCB test equipment, Video Measurement equipment, and mechanical gauges, micrometers and calipers
  • Mechanical (dimensional) inspection
  • Mechanical testing and inspection of production items at various stages of manufacturing
  • Coordinating calibration and repairing of test/inspection instruments, along with maintaining accurate records, logs, and files related to Quality Control
  • Compiling, controlling and disseminating the following documentation: material test reports, material certifications, process certifications, hazardous material reports, certificates of conformance, in-process test and inspection reports and conflict mineral reports
  • Ability to objectively analyze a given set of information and make acceptance or rejection judgments based on drawings, specifications, written instructions, commodity type, and the part's form, fit, and function characteristics

Qualifications

  • High school diploma and 10-15 years’ related experience and/or training in the above responsibilities, including 2 years of experience in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 standards, QC procedures and documentation, and have experience with mechanical inspection to engineering drawings using standard hand tools and methods
  • CMM programming is ideal
  • Fiber-optic experience and/or ANSI/TIA/EIA-455 certification helpful
  • Computer literacy and are general familiarization with ERP production/manufacturing software
  • Excellent attention to detail as well as organizational, interpersonal and time management skills
  • Professionalism in work output and demeanor, and comfortable reading engineering drawings and other technical documents
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
