About The BjccFor over 50 years, the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) has served as a premier entertainment destination attracting a broad array of events across a diverse collection of venues. Centrally located in the heart of Birmingham, Alabama’s Uptown Entertainment District, the BJCC campus includes Legacy Arena at the BJCC, Protective Stadium, BJCC Concert Hall, over 220,000 square feet of meeting & exhibition space, and City Walk BHAM, a 31-acre public outdoor space with a dog park, pickleball courts, skate park and much more. Summary/Objective The Marketing Coordinator will provide support to the BJCC’s Sales and Marketing department. The role will participate in strategic marketing projects and initiatives including but not limited to, social media, signage, promotions, website, brand voice, graphic design, and ticket sales.
Essential Duties/ResponsibilitiesDemonstrates understanding and full performance ability in each of the following:
  • Assist the Director of Sales & Marketing and Marketing Managers with timely projects covering a wide array of activities.
  • Gain experience in ticket sales strategy by participating in weekly meetings on potential promotions and grassroots efforts to maximize sales.
  • Assist with the creation and/or revitalization of BJCC marketing assets/collateral with graphic design tools and content creation.
  • Assist with the ideation and execution of event day content capture to be featured on social media to include pre-show activities and the guest experience.
  • Create digital content for use on the website and social (copy and visual asset creation/selection).
  • Assist with developing signage for event and/or venue initiatives.
  • Monitor activities at competing arenas and theatres across the country for the application of best practices.
  • Conduct entertainment industry and marketing research via email, phone calls, internet searches as well as various community resources and publications.
  • Assist with file organization of all sales & marketing materials on a shared network drive.
  • Develop a familiarity with the live entertainment, sports, and marketing industries.
  • Bring innovative and fresh perspectives to elevate the BJCC experience.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Work Environment This environment is fast-paced and moderately demanding. This position may have a moderate to extensive stress level associated with dealing with crowds of public visitors. Work is typically performed indoors, in a temperature-controlled office setting, although at times work may be performed outdoors exposed to the elements (heat, rain, etc.).
Physical Demands Duties require extended periods of sitting. Moderate amount of physical effort such as walking, standing, and climbing. Limited amount of bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. with or without assistance, while maintaining good balance. Must be flexible enough to reach above shoulder level and be able to push and pull for brief periods. Visual acuity, speech recognition, and speech clarity.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Normally, Monday-Friday regular business hours. Hours of work may be flexible and varied to meet the demands of the events of the facility.
Required Education And Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in Marketing or Public Relations in the entertainment industry, related field, or equivalent combination of education/internship and experience required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or a related field or similar experience.
  • Valid State of Alabama Driver License.

  • Ability to quickly adapt, be flexible, and learn quickly.
  • Capable of working independently without continuous supervision.
  • Position has a wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected with a results-oriented objective.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships, both internally and externally, by representing BJCC in a professional manner in all endeavors.
  • Must demonstrate fluency across social media platforms.
  • Experience with capturing and editing photos and reels/video for social media is a plus.
  • Strong eye for detail with an understanding of basic design principles.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to provide creative visual solutions.
  • Excellent oral communication, written communication, fluency in English, and active listening.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, time management, multi-task, and deductive reasoning skills.
  • Must be extremely organized and detail-oriented.
  • Proficient in general office equipment including but not limited to computer, telephone, copier/fax machine, social media, calculator, etc.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is preferred, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Familiarity with SproutSocial and/or Wordpress a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Teams) and other software programs.
