FLSA Job Status: Non-Exempt

Hours worked per Week: 40

Travel Requirement: <10%

Hourly Wage: $25.36 - $33.02

Birdon America is a large Government/Commercial contractor of Marine vessels. NAMJet is a leading supplier of technologically advanced commercial and military workboat marine water jet propulsion systems. We design, manufacture and service systems, components and provide integrated solutions for commercial and military workboats, water jet propulsion and other platforms.

Basic Job Functions:

Welding inspectors are responsible for inspecting and assessing the quality and strength of welding work. Their job is to ensure welds are safe and ready to function as part of the device or structure. Welding inspectors also inspect the equipment used and ensure welders adhere to company and state safety regulations.

This is a hands-on position that requires close and effective working relationship with manufacturing.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Review, compile, or complete product deliverables including Contract deliverables, Certificates of Conformance, Tool Inspection Reports, First Article Inspection Reports, etc.
  • Develop, apply, and maintain quality requirements, standards, inspection reports for manufacturing products and processes
  • Read and understand applicable ISO, AS, SAE, AWS, ASTM and similar quality and process standards
  • Perform in process and final inspections on products/projects as necessary.
  • Support Birdon?s Quality Management System
  • Reporting quality anomalies to the supervisor.
  • Ensuring production is not hindered by quality testing procedures.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED.

Required Skills:

All Levels

  • Evaluate completed welding work or work in progress to ensure that it complies with the applicable codes and standards.
  • Perform inspections in accordance with AWS D1.2
  • Basic Understanding of welding defects.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and team facilitation skills including customer interaction.
  • Understanding of mathematical concepts and possess a high-level of visual awareness.
  • Experience drafting reports and collating data.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical information.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.

Level I

  • Minimum 1-2 years' directly related quality weld inspection experience in a maufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Understanding and inspection of MIG welded parts by specification including weld symbol interpretations

Level II

  • Minimum 3 years' directly related quality weld inspection experience in a maufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Understanding and inspection of MIG welded parts by specification including weld symbol interpretations
  • Understand and perform pressure testing and NDT such as Dye Pen
  • Aluminum weld inspection experience

Level III

  • Minimum 6 years' directly related quality weld inspection experience in a maufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Understanding and inspection of MIG welded parts by specification including weld symbol interpretations
  • Understand and perform pressure testing and NDT such as dye pen
  • Aluminum and stainless steel weld inspection experience
  • Perform inspections with AWS D1.6
  • Maintain metric reports and oversee welding qualifications

Level IV

  • Minimum 6 years' directly related quality weld inspection experience in a maufacturing or assembly environment.
  • Understanding and inspection of MIG welded parts by specification including weld symbol interpretations
  • Understand and perform pressure testing and NDT such as dye pen
  • Aluminum and stainless steel weld inspection experience
  • Perform inspections with AWS D1.6
  • Maintain metric reports and oversee welding qualifications
  • Assign workload to lower level inspectors

Working Conditions:

  • Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment where exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp cutting tools, dust, fumes and airborne particles, temperature extremes and elevated noise level.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, kneel, climb, crouch, talk and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Hourly Rates

  • Weld Inspector - $25.36 per hour
  • Weld Inspector I - $27.13 per hour
  • Weld Inspector II - $28.91 per hour
  • Weld Inspector III - $31.55 per hour
  • Weld Inspector IV - $33.02 per hour

The levels of this position are differentiated by increasing degrees of responsibilities, years of experience, quality of work, and will be determined upon interview evaluation. Hourly rates are fixed for each job level.
