What You'll Do

This Advanced Research Associate position, located in Waltham, MA , will be responsible for carrying out technical experimentation and maintaining records and documentation while developing lab routines for biofluid-based exosome assays for cancer, metabolic and other diseases. Candidate must have strong technical aptitude and a creative drive to solve challenging technical issues. Must be skilled in the art of molecular biology especially in the field of next generation sequencing (NGS), carefully document every aspect of the work, have a strong sense for details, and capable of multitasking in a dynamic work environment.

  • Generate NGS libraries for sequencing of RNA and cell-free DNA.

  • Develop work routines including automation and standard operating procedures.

  • Support in-house development of NGS assays that could be validated in CLIA setting.

  • Support custom projects for biomarker discovery.

  • Report and document results and progress to colleagues, clients and for IP.

  • Contribute and write experimental plans, protocols, SOPs, and reports.

  • Carry out troubleshooting activities per team decision or from supervisor.

  • Take routine laboratory responsibilities and comply with laboratory rules.

  • Follow company policies and practices as outlined in all company resources and external sources, including, but not limited to, safety and compliance guidelines (e.g.-- CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, OSHA, and related safety guidelines).

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Who You Are & What You Bring

Education and Experience:

  • BS/MS in life sciences with 3 years of experience in a molecular biology laboratory, NGS core facility or a medical testing lab, preferably in biotech industry.

  • 2 years of preferably recent hands-on experience in Next Generation Sequencing library construction.

  • Familiarity with commercially available NGS kits for targeted and non-targeted RNA & DNA sequencing.

  • Experience with nucleic acid extraction and PCR based detection techniques (e.g. qRT-PCR).

  • Well - versed in molecular biology and familiarity with cancer biology is a plus.

  • Prior experience working with biofluids, and cell free DNA is a plus.

  • Prior experience working in a regulated environment is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experienced with a variety of molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid extraction, amplification, and detection.

  • Experienced with molecular biology techniques with hands-on experience with various nucleic acid, protein and NGS testing platforms and technology landscape.

  • Strong project management abilities to prioritize and schedule multiple concurrent projects.

  • Excellent communication skills and can implement technologies developed from R&D into a CLIA and/or FDA-regulated environment.

  • Excellent work ethics with high-level of professionalism and integrity.

  • Strong interpersonal interaction skills and demonstrable ability to work collaboratively at all levels within the Bio-Techne organization.

  • Skilled in anticipating and resolving issues.

  • Able to perform a wide variety of tasks and multi-task efficiently.
