COMPUTER TECHNICIAN
Purpose Statement
The job of Computer Technician was established for the purpose/s of maintaining computer and network equipment in a safe and functional operating condition; meeting the technology needs of the district; documenting information; and resolving immediate operational and/or safety concerns.
This job is distinguished from similar jobs by the following characteristics: Must be dependable, have good physical condition, and ability to learn new technology and software.
This job reports to Supervisor of Information Systems Technology (IST)

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adhering to safety practices,preparing and maintaining, accurate records, using pertinent software applications, troubleshooting software and hardware problems.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: safety practices and procedures, working knowledge of software, hardware, and office equipment.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing specific, defined processes; and utilize equipment under a variety of conditions for multiple purposes. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with data of widely varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a wide variety of types of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities displaying mechanical aptitude maintaining confidentiality meeting deadlines and schedules setting priorities working as part of a team working with detailed information/data working with frequent interruptions.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; directing other persons within a small work unit; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization’s services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; significant climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity and responsible use of job place equipment and vehicles. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 10% walking, and 70% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and in a generally hazard free environment.
Experience Job related experience is required.
Education Community College or Vocational School degree with study in job related area.
