The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) willprovide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to the sexual assaultvictim. The SANE exam may include a medical-forensic exam, prophylaxis forpregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, photographic documentation, andreferrals for appropriate medical and psychological follow-up, support andparticipation in legal proceedings.
Essential Job Functions
• Supportsand models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic’s mission, vision, values,code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatoryorganizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in allorganizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to theenvironment, employee, patient safety or job performance.
• Performa complete medical forensic examination to include completed head to toemedical assessment for trauma, detailed genital/anal examination; Forensicspecimen collection and supportive documentation; Photo documentation of bodilyand genital/anal injuries with competent documentation. Demonstrates care forthe patient, not just for evidence collection purposes.
• Assesspatient for mandatory reporting status and report when appropriate.
• Maintainchain of custody and adhere to evidence guidelines.
• Ensurespatient/medical record confidentiality (HIPPA).
• Cleansand sanitizes SANE room upon completion of exam.
• Participatesin periodic case review to include documentation and photographs.
• Maintainsclinical education hours relevant to sexual assault or forensics.
• Takesresponsibility for own professional growth and development needs; meets allsystem/departmental educational requirements.
• Demonstratescollaborative, supportive, and caring behaviors in communication with patient’sfamilies, visitors, and the interdisciplinary care team.
• Considerationis given to the appropriateness of care based on the population specific needsof the patient.
• Performsother duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of thedepartment/organization.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
• 2 Year / Associates Degree (ASN) - Associate (or Diploma) RNs hired into this position must commit to completing their Bachelor of Nursing degree within 4 years of their date of hire. Billings Clinic will help support the cost through financial assistance.
• Preferred - 4 Year / Bachelors Degree(BSN)
Experience
• Two years of RN experience
Certifications and Licenses
• Current Montana state license as aregistered nurse, or compact nursing license with ability to obtain a MT RNlicense within 90 days of hire date
• SANE-A/SANE-P certifications after twoyears of practice within 2 years of hire
• Healthcare Provider CPR Certificationrequired
• Individual or employment-basedmalpractice insurance (1,000,000/6,000,000)
• Successfulcompletion of recommended clinical components to minimally include:
• Completed International Association ofForensic Nurses (IAFN) Adult /Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Course(41 hours)
• Completion of IAFN Pediatric/AdolescentSexual Nurse Examiner (40 hours)
• Speculum training competence /check off
• Shadowing an experienced SANE for 2-3exams, and then being shadowed by an experienced SANE for 2-3 exams.
• Proficient use of all equipment
Other Requirements
• Forty-eight (48) hours of call a monthin 12-hour increments; this may include weekends at times.
• One – 12-hour call shift during aholiday such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year’s etc.
• Actively engaged in regularly conductingSANE exams with no lapse of greater than six (6) months
