Billerud North America is Hiring an Environmental Technician Near Wisconsin Rapids, WI

Purpose:

Provide shift surveillance of the Wisconsin Rapids Mill Wastewater Treatment Facility’s equipment and system’s operations; collect effluent samples, conduct tests, record results; assist with equipment and chemical trials and projects; arrange for equipment maintenance; assist with State and Federal environmental reporting, maintain State certified lab, and carry out responsibilities in a manner which will ensure safe operation and that all environmental standards are met. This is a full-time position.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Promote a safe work environment
  • On a 12-hour shift basis, monitor the operations of the Wastewater Treatment Facility, ensuring that state and federal standards are met, including operation of neutralization systems, primary and secondary clarifiers, proper operation of activated sludge aeration lagoons and sludge dewatering presses. This will include analyzing and correcting situations to meet environmental standards
  • Utilize Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to operate equipment
  • Collect samples at various stages of treatment for testing, monitor automatic sampling and recording devices and conduct lab tests according to established schedules and standards
  • Operate, calibrate and maintain testing equipment
  • Provide concise, comprehensive recording of data; provide data entry into spreadsheets and databases; generate reports
  • Assist with new equipment and chemical trials, evaluations and projects as directed by supervisor
  • Make inspections of equipment, assist in troubleshooting problems and/or preventing their occurrence
  • Oversee landfill operations when Supervisor is not on site
  • Identify maintenance needs and arrange for repair of equipment with mill maintenance personnel; recommend improvements
Required Skills

Minimum Required Skills:

Proficient in the use of mill information systems. Preferences including Optivision, Proficy, SAP, Aspen Process Explorer, Access, and others

Possess ambulatory capabilities to move freely about the Treatment Facility, ascend and descend ladders and stairways.

Required Experience

Minimum Required Experience and Education:

  • Associate Degree or higher in Wastewater Technology, Environmental Sciences or equivalent, or
  • A minimum of 2 years experience operating an Activated Sludge Wastewater Treatment Facility
  • Individuals Certified as Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators are encouraged to apply.
