We are currently seeking a dedicated and qualified Sign Language Interpreter to join our team in Annapolis, MD.As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will provide interpretation and communication support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Your role will be instrumental in ensuring effective communication and equal access to educational opportunities. This is a full-time position with a commitment to supporting students throughout the school year.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide sign language interpretation services to students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and other school staff.
  • Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities accurately and effectively.
  • Support students in understanding and participating in academic and non-academic activities.
  • Collaborate with the educational team to develop strategies for effective communication and inclusion.
  • Assist with adapting instructional materials and resources to meet the students' needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all aspects of your work.
  • Attend meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.

Requirements:

  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as RID certification) is required.
  • Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong knowledge of deaf culture.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interpret accurately and effectively in various educational settings.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of different students and situations.
  • Familiarity with assistive technology and accommodations for students with hearing impairments.
