Job Title: Bilingual-Musician-Educator Teaching Artist
Location: Asheville, NC
Terms: Part-time, Independent Contractor
Compensation: $40-$50 hour and up, depending on experience and class placement
Qualifications: Bilingual in Spanish & English; Proficient instrumental skills; 4 years working with kids ages 0-5; Background in music education, puppetry, and/or musical theater (preferred)
The Opportunity:
Do you speak Spanish fluently (or are a native speaker), love to sing, and enjoy getting silly with adorable kids under 6? Do you feel passionate about teaching kids to explore the world and the idea of building a bilingual community? We’re looking for dynamic Spanish-speaking, bilingual musicians who love to sing fun songs and make little kids giggle!
This is a part-time position with a children’s education program in Asheville. Training and curriculum are included, but it’s a bonus if you have puppetry or musical theater experience. Must be able to play an instrument proficiently while you sing (ukulele, guitar, keyboard, or a similar backup instrument of your choice). This post is for Spanish speakers, but we are also always looking for French or Mandarin speakers to join our multilingual team.
About the Company: Bilingual Birdies Asheville is an early childhood education program where we make learning a foreign language super fun through live music and singalongs, theater/rhythm games, puppetry, and movement for kids 0-5. Fair pay and community building are central to this work. We are looking for bilingual musicians who care deeply about additional cultures and who are passionate about working with kids 0-5.
While we teach classes independently, we are a small and supportive team. We communicate often by text and email to coordinate schedules, accept/decline new class series, and cover classes in case of illness or emergency. We occasionally gather for team meetings and perform concerts/special kids events as an ensemble.
About the Position:
Our teachers lead week day classes in local schools and afternoon parent-child community classes. The schedule can range from teaching two separate 30- or 45-minute classes per week, to teaching several classes each week depending on need and availability.
Pay begins at $40-50 per hour depending upon experience and the particular work placement. Admin meetings are paid at $20/hr and we provide paid training. Timeline would be training over the summer and teaching would be in the academic school year— mid September and October start dates. Though some work opportunities stop and start throughout the year. Hoping to find someone who is available for weekday afternoons between 3-6pm for some community classes.
