Big Sandy Lodge and Resort was originally built in 1902. We currently offer cabins and lodge rooms for rent. The property offers a multitude of outdoor activities for guests to enjoy, including fishing, hiking, snowmobiling and an outdoor sport court. Inside the lodge, guests can take advantage of the indoor swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, and workout facility. On-site dining includes the Bear’s Den Sports Bar & Restaurant, which boasts a three-tiered deck to witness the beautiful scenery of northern Minnesota while enjoying a meal or cocktail.

Position Summary

The maintenance technician works with the maintenance management team to carry out operations of the lodge, villas, and retreat as it pertains to the grounds, utilities, construction, maintenance, storage, rental, and service work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Grounds: Lawn Care, trimming of trees and bushes as needed, sweeping of lots, cleaning, raking, water drainage issues, ponds, taking docks in and out, cleaning the beach.
  • Utilities: Wells- Usage, Flowage, Drainage, & Smell
Gas- Usage, Meter Reading Billing
Sewer- Drainage, Monitoring
  • Lodge: Pool, Kitchen, HVAC, Rooms, Event set up and take down, scheduling of dock attendants
  • Villas & Cabins: Maintenance
  • Storage Rentals & Service:
Storage- scheduling of boat, snowmobiles, 4 wheelers, or anything the customer wants to store, coming in and going out of the warehouse in accordance with the storage contracts. Maintain adequate space for the lodge use.
  • Rental- Oversee operations with the rental of all lodge equipment. Coordinate with lodge staff for scheduling of departments and arrivals.
  • Service- Oversee, schedule, direct and carry out the various services being offered to the public. Tune ups, winterizing summarizing, taking docks out and putting in, lawn service, snowplowing, spring clean-up, fall shut down, etc.
  • Support management in special projects as requested. Identify, prepare solutions, and help implement initiatives to improve facilities as requested.

Other Duties/Responsibilities

  • Perform special projects and other responsibilities as they arise.
  • Participate in task forces and committees as required.
  • Professional attitude required.
  • Most tasks are performed independently or in a team environment with the employee acting as a team leader.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • 2 years of maintenance experience required.

  • Must be able to manage multiple property priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels within and outside the organization and have the ability to effectively problem solve with all.

Special Qualifications

Mille Lacs Band Member and American Indian preference will be exercised in the hiring process.
