Objective of the Job

Ensure policies, procedures and all activities are carried out to support BRS goals for environmental compliance and sustainability, and objectives at the Site level and in the Environmental Department as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

Uphold a high integrity for BRS Systems while supporting Environmental and ResponsibleSteel systems and programs
Support Environmental Department on Environmental Management System (ISO 14001)
Participate in daily Safety and Environmental incident debriefings
Perform opacity readings related to BRS Air Permit
Manage protocols of raw materials purchase contracts, monitor contract efficiency and build / support supplier relationships including following up on payables
Perform data entry, develop and maintain recycling goals and objectives
Work in close coordination with Operations, Safety, Quality and Environmental teams on updating Emergency Action Plan and exercising the plan (e.g. spill drill)
Work to develop better way-finding signage for mill and emergency responders
Support and expand BRS recycling program
Update, organize the Safety Data Sheet System

Qualifications

Familiarity with emergency response, environmental and health and safety regulations
Pursuing a 4-year degree in related field
Knowledge of Microsoft Office package (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and understanding of pivot charts and tables
Excellent organizational / time management skills with analytical problem solving abilities
Strong communication and computer skills; ability to work independently and ability to work proactively with suppliers and other departments
Willingness to learn, punctual, accountable

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to work in steel plant setting and office setting with daily tasks in the mill, which could typically involve extreme environments from hot to cold. This position can require long hours, weekend and holiday coverage to support routine responsibilities.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position currently does not supervise others – the scope may change as time progresses and organization grows.
