Big-D has an opportunity for an experienced Electrical Superintendent to join our team of construction professionals in Soda Springs, ID.

Experience/Training:

  • Bachelor's degree or 7 to 10 years of related experience working on heavy industrial construction projects; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Critical Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of established construction practices, procedures, and techniques as well as applicable local, state and federal building codes.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of equipment and tools and proficiency in skilled construction, and repair tasks.
  • Possess strong computer skills; proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook.
  • Advanced understanding of construction scheduling and sequencing, and cost control.
  • Knowledge of general survey and layout practices.
  • Ensure all installations meet quality and electrical code standards
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with project team, customers, subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and employees at all levels of the organization. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively lead and manage teams.
  • Thorough and attentive to details; extremely organized and able to prioritize and multitask.
  • Ability to proactively plan and identify risks to meet or exceed the deadline while meeting the safety requirements, productivity goals, sustainability goals and quality.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in the workplace.
  • Ability to read, understand, and red-line work orders, budget, change orders, safety standards, plans specifications, shop drawings, submittals, manufacturer’s literature. Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, correspondence, memos, blue prints, contract documents and specifications, and CPM schedules.
  • Possess strong customer service skills.
  • Regular, timely, and predictable attendance is required for this position.

Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations: (other duties may be assigned to meet business needs)

Supervision/Personnel

  • Manage safety on the project. Coordinate with corporate safety when and accident or injury happens on the project.
  • Provides overall on-site leadership. Manages everything on the jobsite and immediate areas around the jobsite. Takes ownership for project outcomes and overcomes challenges within budget and schedule; exceeding owner expectations.
  • Responsible for schedule, safety, quality, sustainability, production, logistics and coordination.
  • Maintains an orderly, clean, safe jobsite that is organized with storage, staging, parking access, etc.
  • Supervises and schedules craft employees and/or other on-site company personnel in person. Assumes responsibility for productivity of crafts, efficient use of materials and equipment, and contractual performance of the project.
  • Acts as a mentor and encourages subordinate growth and development.
  • Follows company hiring, discipline, and dismissal procedures in accordance with Big-D’s corporate values and legal requirements.
  • Maintains all employee time cards; ensures employee time is properly coded and turned in on time to the payroll specialist by Friday evening of each week.
  • Does not approve catch-up, make-up, or accelerated scheduled overtime without team consent (Supt, PM, PIC, Operations VP).
  • Holds Field people accountable for anticipated productivity. Does not allow excessive breaks, long lunches, late starts, early shut downs, etc.
  • Turns in mileage and expense reports on time each month.
  • Mentors and encourages subordinate growth and development, and builds the morale of all project team members through positive reinforcement, feedback, etc.
  • Helps manage revisions to the construction documents. Ensures everyone is working using the most current drawings. Inputs all correspondence into the drawings, request for information (RFI), architectural supplement instructions, etc. Key items are flagged or highlighted for quick future references.
  • Ensures that the project site and construction activities are being constantly documented in writing and in photos. Ensures “job closeout” procedures are followed, including the punch list, and verifies its completion.
  • Attends and represents the company in applicable meetings, such as the job “kick off” meeting, weekly project meeting, monthly project manager-superintendent meeting, owner-architect (OAC) meeting, monthly job review meeting, and management report meeting (upon request).
  • Distributes shop drawings and submittals and coordinates with project team to ensure they are compliant with contract documents and other trade work.
  • Assists the project manager in acquiring information for status reporting.
  • Manages rental and Big-D’s equipment by ensuring proper maintenance, swift return to vendor, regular inventory, proper use, and obtaining a rent-to-own agreement on rental equipment.
  • Collects and ensures daily reports/logs and weekly safety reports are complete and accurate.
  • Ensures all force account work, back charges, and scope changes have proper signatures and approvals.
  • Becomes familiar with and utilizes the designated project control/management software.
  • Uses appropriate technical information (e.g., electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc.) in performing job functions.
  • Proactive and attends training on a frequent basis.
  • Assists in the development of training concepts and/or classes.
  • Seeks to learn changes in the industry.

Schedule Management

  • Works with the project team to establish goals and develop accountability.
  • Coordinates and directs all subcontractor and vendor deliveries to ensure timeliness and efficient placement on site.
  • Ensures that the project is being constructed according to the master schedule and that the milestone dates are being achieved.
  • Manages project staging, access, hoisting, vertical and horizontal movement of material and craft people; and tracks productivity compared to the budget.
  • Holds and conducts weekly subcontractor meetings and on-site safety orientation meetings, documenting items discussed, attendance sheets, holds subcontractors accountable as per Big-D expectations.
  • Identifies schedule risks and plans of action, and keeps project manager up-to-date on risk exposures to add to exposure log.
  • Assists the project manager and/or project engineer in creating a detailed construction schedule; effectively communicates all anticipated project activities and reasonably estimates appropriate duration for each activity.
  • Creates and maintains a schedule using computer software to be reviewed with subcontractors.
  • Produce a meaningful 3-week look ahead schedule. Clearly communicates goals to subs from week to week in subcontractor coordination meetings. The 3-week schedule must mirror the overall project CPM schedule.
  • Updates master schedule on a monthly basis, and makes certain the owner and architect understand it.
  • Identifies active and potential delays to the project and assures that these delays are being documented on CPM and communicated to the project team.
  • Creates a recovery plan for project delays.
  • Creates a procurement log for critical materials and/or equipment to be delivered to project. This can be done by adding appropriate activities to CPM schedule (a joint effort with PM or PE).
